I'd say stick with Japan. Give it a while to calm down a bit and let them get things moving again. You can guarantee that the Japanese will will move on.

Agree, stick with your original plan, least it will be free from nearly all the US tourists & Daily Mail readers for best part of a year until they forget about it.
NRT will be back to normal in terms of a visit very soon..

OK- things have changed again and DL the Elder isn't setting foot on Japanese soil (ever by the sounds of it :0 Geiger counters make her twitchy ). She now decrees no natural disaster areas, floods, hurricanes , teutonic plate movement etc etc (this now extends to Hawaii, LA ,SFO etc etc). Coming from a woman that was lobbed bombs by Hitler 60 years ago this makes travel planning a bit difficult :0 .
Latest idea is Amish country via IAD? (Surprisingly, I do like the sound of this). Comments please?

My only experience of the Amish is that film with Harrison Ford where they built a barn !

Could be an interesting few days contrast with DC and all of its attractions.

Having visited Hawaii before, and (spookily) being another V-flyer off to LA then Hawaii, I will post about my trip on my return - if you can wait 3 weeks!

I don't suppose it's changed that much - Hawaii is a beautiful place, and each island is different, so you can pick the one you like the look of, or move around a little and get a bit of a change...
