Thanks all for your replies.

So basically if I use online check-in, and print my own boarding pass all I need to is go straight to the departures without needing to goto the checkin desk because I won't be dropping any bags, correct?

Two weeks ago at LHR my carry on was weighed by VS luckily it was only 4.5kg. When I boarded I noticed that everyone had a label on their handles to confirm their bags had been weight checked :? I didn't put it in my TR as I had forgotten about it.

I have had to unpack a carry on at LGW at check in for being only a few kilos over and made to put items into my checked bag. I must admit the experience has made me careful about what I take on board :?

I have also had my carry on re weighed at the gate before boarding at LGW on a MCO flight :0

Had mine weighed at T3 Friday, also asked if I had a laptop in it...

Not sure the weight but she said it was OK. Likewise although mine isn't that big a significant amount of the weight is in the case itself.

But then I saw this when I looked at the Online Check page:

Once you're checked in:

When you arrive at the airport go straight to the Bag Drop where we'll check your luggage and give you a boarding pass. You will need to show your printed boarding pass (if you have printed one), travel documents including passport and e-ticket receipt/paper ticket at the Virgin Atlantic Bag Drop.

If you have bags/cases to check-in you go to the Bag Drop

If you only have a carry-on bag, just go straight to security with your boarding pass & passport
