According to the most recent transoceanic reports, she is flying very close to VIR3.
Perhaps we may see some inflight pics. when VS get their PR act together.

I have to say, having seen the new IFE system in action (nicknamed 'JAM') - it will really blow your socks off!

Only downside is it's not full internet accessible..yet.. but everything else is absolutely top notch!

It'll be worth the wait I'm sure :-) There are some in-flight photos on Facebook, but that's mainly from staff at the mo!

Cool my cynical but I doubt that it is going to blow our socks off. Yes compared to Odyseey, Supernova and V:Port, the new system will be fantastic. However when compared to other carriers this new IFE system is just going to be a case of VS catching up with the rest. A shame really because at one stage VS releasing a product that would blow your socks off would have gone hand in hand with the phrase 'raising the standard for the rest of the industry', these days this is not the case.

Without going to off topic if VS believe that introducing some mood lighting in all cabins and an IFE system that brings it up to date with other airlines is going to help win passengers back/keep passengers, then they need to seriously look at what other carriers are doing. These little tweaks are too little and for some way too late.

If I could drag myself away from the pool, I could head across to mco for the arrival but knowing what security is like, unless you have a room at the hyatt, it will probably just be hastle.

What sort of thing would you like to see on board, bearing in mind the recession and cutbacks being made everywhere? At least it's a step in the right direction.

Indeed, I am completely underwhelmed by the introduction of the A333s. Same seats, IFE that is a par for others, NOT even Web access (why the heck is it 'promised' but not immediately available?), wooo mood lighting. Where is the innovation, where is the style, where is the wow! No wonder VS kept the whole thing quiet. It's a great shame.

I hope the airline isn't in real trouble.

But, if you're used to a tatty LGW 747 then it's going to be lovely.

The new UCS has to do a real heap of goodness.

Do any long-haul carriers have internet access?

And to be honest, if you haven't even used the IFE I don't think it's far to comment that it's on par with others!

Oman Air A330's have wifi

actually, looking on Google there are several long haul carriers, and many short haul that have inflight web access

But looking at their route network, they fly almost 95% above land where wi-fi wouldn't be too difficult to get working.

I dont think at present any airline that crosses an ocean has wi-fi on board - I could be wrong, and feel free to correct me, but surely crossing an ocean is a major problem to try and get wi-fi working efficiently?

(I have no idea how these things work, so just putting it out there!)

The GoGo system that the likes of VX use won't work over the Atlantic as it uses ground to air mobile masts/cell towers (similar to the way mobile phone networks work)

I believe some on-board systems use satellite broadband access though.

Anyone know if the new IFE has acess to external webcams?

Bill,

Totally agree with your suggestions on the link... I flew LHR-HKG on CX a few weeks ago - Forward facing camera and maps available gate to gate... There was something pretty awesome about watching the take-off from the nose cam over London.

If others can do it, why not VS?

I'm looking forward to sampling the IFE - Certainly by looking at other long haul carriers i've used recently, VS has a lot of catching up to do!

With all due respect, I really would deem cameras on the nose or tail a complete waste of money - I think it's mainly enthusiasts that would appreciate such things.. There's not much to see at 30,000ft!

Every flight I've been on that has had access to outside cameras, I noticed most if not all the pax watched it during taxi/take-off and landing (most now offer a choice of belly, nose and tail camera views)

I cannot see it costing that much extra to install 3 cameras on the A/C. I know most Airbus A/C already have cameras for flight deck use, but I believe these cannot be linked to the IFE.
