34" according to the VS website.

From the VS website:

"The extra legroom seats will offer you up to 3 inches of additional legroom, than that of our standard economy seat.

You can purchase extra legroom seats from £30*. They are available when you check-in at the airport on the day you travel, or by calling our contact centre on 0844 209 7777 up to 48 hours before you travel. "

If available, of course, but thats rather hit and miss isn't it? I understand cost per pax room vs overall cost of flight, but this could be another sedction at a higher cost but less than PE? especially on B & s flights with no UC and competeing with the charters? Just a thought...

yes is subject to availability but in many cases you can do this before departure via the contact centre. It will definitely be cheaper than PE.

That's only if you have booked with VS direct otherwise you have to wait until check-in

You're right, you won't get the new purple seats. No date has been set for the refit which will probably start late this year or at the start of next year. Remember that VS is heading into its busiest period on the LGW routes and can't really afford to be an aircraft down

I saw V-KSS at MAN today and very good she looked too as I walked from the station to T3.

Then got a glimpse of her as she took off too.

Are you talking about the A330 providing cover? It's always been scheduled to start services out of Gatwick on 1 May.

330 may have always been 'scheduled' to start services ex LGW but the reason why these two aircraft have joined the fleet now is to 'cover' the 744 LGW fleet whilst they go off and get refitted. With G-VROM being away in South America for the conceivable future the LGW fleet is rather stretched, hence LHR 744s now being rather frequent visitors to LGW. With a refit of a 744 taking another 744 out of the fleet, the decision was taken to bring in two of the 330s in W/Y(the reason for W/Y only has been well documented) in order to provide 'cover' for the 744 that was being re-fitted. Of course, this has not been confirmed but from reading other boards and putting two and two together this seems to make sense. Once the LGW 744 fleet has been re-fitted the two 330's will be fitted out with J and will move to LHR along with the other 330s, which by that time will have been returned by CI and the second batch of 330s will be rolling off the production line at TLS.

Had VS taken the decision to note refit the LGW 744 fleet then I would imagine you would have seen the two current 330s being sent off to another airline for a year before returning back to join the LHR fleet. As it happens the 330s in W/Y provide a nice little stopgap for the LGW fleet in the short term and enable VS to bed the aircraft into the fleet before they start LHR operations with (new?) UC.

Yeah, but when they leave LGW then they'll instead be flying in as good as new 747's having had a complete refit with the latest IFE and other products!

oh yes, dont get me wrong, personally I much prefer teh 747's to the Airbus for size and comfort, and I certainly dont subscribe to the argument atht a "new" plane is any better than a refurbished aircraft especially with the maintenance VS do to them, its only the actual airframe which is older. :-)

Its just people on other fiorums are getting excited about flying in a A330 as the 747's are preceived to be old, which is nonsense of course. Wait until the little darlings have pushed too hard on thge IFE screensm wee'd in the aisles, kicked the trim off the seat in front..... :D :D

Oh yeah agreed! See alot of posts about the 'old' VS 747s at gatwick being worse than the 'new' LHR ones, despite the fact that all but one of the LGW ones I think are infact newer!

Reading through this thread, the last few posts are most interesting. The A330's are only going to be used for a short time ? Im due to fly MAN - MCO in Sept 2012, i know anything can happen between now and then but as things stand, will i be in the A330 or 747-400 ?

The A330's are a permanent addition to the fleet.

Well as of yesterday she returned to Bolivia on a positioning flight from MAD after spending 2 weeks there, not quite sure what she was doing on the ground for so long... anyone in the know that can shed a bit more light on this? Do VS have any maintenance facilities in MAD?

Its usually AMS or MNL (depending on the plane) for VS.

Looks like CP-2603 (ex. VROM) was moved to AMS for some mx before flying back to Bolivia.
