This is a combined TR for my flights between HNL and OGG (Maui, kalului).

Really short flights, about 25 minutes airborne, and I doubt that the plane climbed to more than 12k feet.

These were onboard the Boeing 717 as well, which is the only time I’ve ever flown on this model of plane (I’m a little bit of an anorack about such things!). Nice plane, although these examples were a lttle “tired” inside, and thecabin looked well used!

The flights were nice and smooth, and very professionally handled by the crew, as seems to be the way of things with Hawaiian; the usual friendly welcome and useful announcements etc.

Despite the very short flight, the crew managed to squeeze in a drinks round! Just juice or water, and they handed them out, then returned to the front and collected the cups etc!! In all honesty, it’s hardly worth it for such a short flight, but I guess the 2 crew on board needed to do something!

On the outbound flight, we flew close by a volcano with lava runs that looked very awe inspiring, but I’m not sure which volcano it was – it certainly peaked min-Concorde’s interest thouh.

So, again, enjoyable little flights with HA that seems a very good airline.

On my rtn to HNL, we were transferring to HA2 back to LAX, and I’ll post that separately.

One interesting thing, when leaving OGG, we needed to get our check in bags “agriculturally screened” prior to check in. This is to prevent contamination on the US mainland, I guess; just an extra step to be aware of for anyone taking such flights in the future.

So, that’s it! Hope this encourages folks to use HA in the future, they’re a great airline.

I keep hearing lots of good things about HA, definitely will use when I eventually get over to Hawaii.

Thanks the TR, I can imagine seeing the volcano would be an amazing site!

Luke :)
