Just booked a holiday to Bangkok/Krabi in January and we will be flying with Thai in Royal Silk Class.

We have booked with VH as it worked out cheaper than DIYing when the FVC discount was factored in - so would need to request change of airline ASAP if they are dire.

Any experience anyone?

TG are great ! don't worry about it. Until about 5 years ago the Royal Silk was about as good as VS PE but now they have 'new' flat(ish) beds. It is not UC but is a perfectly acceptable seat.
The service is quirky and rather charming in a sort of old-skool flying way. They are not as vigilant (or uptight) as most airlines when it comes to seat belts, switching things off, bags under seats etc
The food can be very good or awful depending on the route and your taste.
Royal silk gets you a very regal treatment so very different to the contempt form most of the USA carriers.

There was a TR with pictures on Thai made about 3 years back you should be able to find it in the back somewhere.

Gilly

I flew with them back in Aug/Sep 2008 in J. I posted TRs for both outward and return trips. See here and here

I would have no qualms flying with them again.

Thanks, Rob. I have planned to ask about upgrades to First at the airport - not that my husband knows that ):

Royal First Lounge in BKK is amazing - think old fashioned Thai service in an amazing environment. Just about the best massage I've had ever. The Royal Silk lounge is pretty good too.

On-board the catering and service is again excellent, above Virgin for sure, but most of the time it's service with a smile but without personality. The hardware is a mixed bag. They have some nice 'craft with suites and flat beds (VS designed) from Jet Airways, some of the LHR birds have deep style recliners on 747s which are in much need f an update.

I'll keep my fingers crossed then.
