Just to check that I am correct in my understanding re the Virgin limo service, there is no way for passengers travelling on a Z (UC) fare to pay for the Virgin limo transfers with miles/money?

MIL has 40k Virgin miles due to expire in June and was wondering if she could book the transfers with them... From what I can gather, to book transfers with them you need to be on a Miles UC ticket (or a ticket upgraded to UC with miles) - travelling on UC tickets paid for with cash wont count?

Can she stop the miles expiring by buying something ot a few miles online?

Thanks
Boo

You can use 17500 miles for a CDC.

A purchase made through the "shopping" link within Flying Club will prevent the miles expiring for a further 3 years - perhaps something from HMV or Play.com which is cheap, quick and easy?

Boo - correct you cannot use miles to get a CDC on a 'Z' ticket. You get a 'free' one on a J,D and R and can use 17.5k if you are on a G.

MiL will need some sort of activity on her account to extend the validity by 3 years. I thoght yo said in youe seats threas that you said you were travelling in June so that should (if the flight date is before the miles expiry date) generate the activity.

Otherwise a CC purchase via VS shopping will also extend them

Boo - I wouldn't get upset that you can't use miles for cdc on a Z fare, it's a not the greatest use of miles IMO. :P

I don't understand why they still don't offer it when they are trying to justify having the private wing exclusive. The private DTCI and the possibility of a link with VHols are ways they are getting numbers up

I agree with that, if you think that 20k miles gets you an upgrade from PE to UC at short notice, which could be worth a couple of thousand, compared to a one hundred quid Volvo ride, it's a joke to use miles for CDCs unless you have millions of them.

Generally agree with that but it seams that Boo's MiL dosent travel that often and her miles are about to expire so in that case a CDC would have meant the miles were used rather than lost.

Thanks very much - really appreciated.

MIL flies a lot actually, but normally Cathay... She is based in Hong Kong and does most of her travel between Hong Kong and London/LA, but is very fussy about service/cleanliness (the Chinese put up with a lot less than us....) and so Cathay suits her better.

It may be worth her extending her airmiles (seems a shame to waste them!). We are flying in June, but I am guessing that the flight date is after the expiration date.

Thanks.
