All, I am sharing here the contents of a snail-mail letter I sent to VS today.
I've been known to pass comment on this forum about this policy, so am doing something more positive about it, and invite comment from other V-Flyers.

Flying Club: <My FC Number>
Dear Sir, Madam,
I am writing in respect of Virgin Atlantic’s policy of not rewarding children’s flights with loyalty miles and the absence of a Household account facility.
Having completed, or have booked, 11 return flights since 2008 with more planned for 2012 and beyond, I am becoming increasingly irked that my daughter’s flights are not eligible for Flying Club miles, and that she cannot hold a Flying Club account, nor is there a facility for a household account. (My wife also has a Flying Club account – <My Wife's FC Number>).
I cannot understand why this policy exists – I currently also collect British Airways miles, and my daughter collects Executive club miles, as well as the family having a Household account.
My strong preference is to fly Virgin whenever I can, but this continued lack of reward for loyalty being shown to my daughter is becoming an increasingly important point for me, that has lead me to consider whether to move my flights plus credit card points collection etc over to BA. I’d very much rather not do this, but if I get increased miles awarded for our family trips, plus the flexibility of the household account, easier reward redemption opportunities as well as a more comprehensive route network – well, my loyalty is being tested a little.
It has been said that the kids packs go some way to rewarding children but this is a nonsense really.
My daughter has received just 3 of these in the many legs we have flown, and she is bored with them, and refused the third on the basis that she’s got the book, has lots of pens, and really doesn’t want another cheap baseball cap, nor the bag it comes in. By implication, you’ll see that many flights have gone by without her even being offered this rather second-rate gift.
I am at a loss to understand why the frequent flyer scheme is not extended to children, whom I know VAA deem as important customers. This is especially true when some of your strongest competitors offer such rewards.
This letter is not a threat or ultimatum, it’s an expression of my disappointment and confusedness, frankly.
I’d be very keen to understand the rationale behind this decision, and if there is none, whether VAA would re-consider this strange policy in the absnce of a rationale.
I look forward to your reply with great interest.
Yours sincerely,
<My Name>
