Ah yes, takes me back to learning about Faraday cages at school... didn't Top Gear do something similar by putting a car under an industrial generator, and simulating a lighning strike on it?

This happened to us many years ago on the approach to MCO. We were in the front row of P/E which at the time was downstairs in the nose, and it sounded like someone hitting the nose of the plane with a VERY big hammer 
The Captain came on, explained what had happened and we landed as normal - only downside was, we had to sit on the plane for about 20 mins till the ramp people were allowed to come out to "plug us in"
