Quick question for a pal who's unsure about what he's got (if anything).

Do United Lifetime flight miles have a value/can they be used for reward flights etc or is that only for the AWARD miles that expire?

Can't see a clear answer on their site and their prog seems confusing when compared to VA! with miles and TP's you know where you are! :D

thanks

AIUI, the lifetime miles are the distance that the member has flown in total whilst a member of the FFP.

The aim is to get in to the millions to qualify for the lifetime benefits:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mileage_Plus
Million Miles and Beyond is a program offered to Mileage Plus members who have flown one million miles or more on United Airlines during their lifetime. These customers permanently receive the benefits of lifetime Premier Executive membership.

2 Million Miles and Beyond is a program offered to Mileage Plus members who have flown two million miles or more on United Airlines during their lifetime. These customers permanently receive the benefits of lifetime Premier Executive membership plus lifetime Red Carpet Club membership.

3 Million Miles and Beyond is a program offered to Mileage Plus members who have flown three million miles or more on United Airlines during their lifetime. These customers permanently receive the benefits of lifetime 1K membership plus lifetime Red Carpet Club membership.

lifetime miles are for reference only and never expire because they are only a running total.
Award miles expire after 3 years of in-activity on the account.
This is a good scheme because most airlines forget about your past loyalty when your circumstances change and you stop flying. UA at least recognise that you have been a good customer.
I don't think VS have anything similar ??

UA Miles expire after 18 months of no activity on the account. It used to be 3 years.

After 3 Million miles in United planes you would certainly deserve a medal!

The question I ask is why? ....... probably because it was company policy v(
