Watched it live on FOX news as I was unable to sleep. Got to say what a good landing. I was surprised that they did not emergency evac everyone off and the front gear looked like it could crumple after stopping. Flames looked worrying during the landing tho.

Great credit to the captain though.

And yes, I'm surprised they didn't evacuate, or foam the landing gear. It must have been very hot!

That front gear is strong, ever tried moving a broken down car when the wheels have full lock on them the friction is enormous.

I must admit, having watched it, I am really surprised that the front gear didn't collapse, the stresses must have been enormous.

In terms of whether to evac or not, I am sure, had the crew believed there was any danger to pax/crew or aircraft, they would have done so.

Main thing is nobody was injured, full praise to whoever brought her down. [y][y][y]

my hat off to the Capt and co-pilot,great landing,I just watched to video for the first time and it is amazing,hats off to Airbus as well,the nose gear staying up was great,I thought it would of collapsed.

Im guess that if it had then they would of used the chutes,but with fire crews standing by using stairs would be the safer way to do it.

We watched this live on NBC yesterday evening. There was talk of an evacuation but it was decided that it was safer not to. Apparently quite a few injuries can occur including broken bones because most pax don't position themselves correctly when using the chutes.

We were all holding our breath until the plane came to a standstill and were amazed a one lady taking photographs as left the plane, not sure I'd be able to even hold the camera still!

It was fortunate that the wheel of the plane was exactly 90 degrees, otherwise they could have been in much more serious trouble[:0]

Good landing - comments from the passengers about how it would be too post post modern to see themselves crashing on TV were vaguely entertaining.

Is it just me or are there loads of crashes happening at the moment?

perhaps if was 180 degrees - or even worse 360 degrees ;)


I too stayed up and watched it land, and I was thinking, huury up! I've got to get up in four hours!

Then I thought, well, perhaps they should land safely rather than cater for the TV audiance in the UK!

If the wheel had been at 30 degrees say, then the plane would have wanted to turn 30 degrees which is not a good idea at 120kts. Whereas, having it at 90 degrees to the runway meant that the plane could power on and keep going straight.

uuummm...no...due to the weight f te aircraft plus the speed those tire's would no of had enough grip to turn he plane,they would of just been ripped from the landing gear as we saw with this landing.

these pic's have now been found to be a different aircraft and we are not sure where the wheel parts came from..the person that sent me these picture's will be spanked...oh hell,forgot I turned over a new leaf..ok I will talk to them sternly.

I thought the plane that had the trouble was Canyon Blue, not Bluebird?

you know what..good spot..im going to ask the person that sent those to me where they were taken,now that I look at it that isn't LAX either..
