I was surprised at how up market parts of it have become, there are some truly world class restaurants there now, the trick is to head out of the center of town.If you head down to the Omni end of the strip on the Laguna Nichupte side there are some amazing restaurants with food, service and views that are world class.

I actually prefer the other end are the Oasis Palm beach, far more laid back and of course a 5 minute walk to the ferry that will take you to Isla Maharis which is really what Cancun used to be like 20 years ago.

Yes I like it down there in case you couldn't guess.

Well I for one am absolutely delighted. We fly on holiday 3-5 times a year and we go at least twice a year to the Rivera Maya. The service levels at the hotel we stay at are amongst the best we have experienced anywhere. After several trips via MIA with VS we had one nightmare trip and so when BA started to fly direct we switched allegiance (hence the absence from this board for some time). We have been mildly disappointed with the BA J experience (no F available on this route with BA) but the ability to fly direct on a a scheduled service more than made up for this so we will be delighted to switch back to VS again from next year - just a shame that our Sept & May 2012 trips will still have to be with BA.

Incidentally, when BA first launched their flights to CUN, we booked that week and they were only scheduled to fly 2-3 times/week but by the time we booked our next trip they had already changed their schedule to daily so clearly this has been a very successful route for BA (and J has always been full on the flights we have taken).

I have to say that after going to Cancun a few years ago with VH I am seriously happy that they have finally taken their heads out of their asses and finally gone direct to CUN. Spoke to the rep while I was out there and it was mooted even then that it would become a direct destination in the near future but this was pre financial downturn.

At least no-one will have to suffer the hell hole that is Miami International :(! while catching a connecting flight anymore.

Well done VS, a lot of Brits go to Mexico, this should help capture a nice chunk of extra revenue.

We have considered Mexico a few things with VH but have never booked because we want to fly direct, we considered going with TC but never have as its worked out more expensive than other caribbean destinations with VH.

We'd consider Mexico now VS are flying direct.

Doubt it. Would be a lot of over capacity as BA have just relaunched with a 777 service, having worked out that the route can work. I just don't think their is the demand for a VS and BA direct London service.

Their IT website management is beyond embarrassing

Indeed, FC sent me an email the other day....it said in a grey box "you can now check door" what it actually meant to see is "you can now check in"....disgrace.
