Hi guys,

Just wondering if someone could recommend us a hotel for us?

We are flying into MIA before driving up to Disney. As we cant check in until the following day, we're looking for somewhere to overnight somewhere en route. We've had a look at the airport hotels but fancied something else.

Anyone have any experience of doing the same?

Cheers,

Personally I'd stay at an airport hotel ( or somewhere near) - once you leave greater Miami there's not much along the freeway on the way up to Orlando. You could head to the beach area but will have traffic both ways. The other option is to drive straight up to Orlando and just stay a night someplace there before checking in to your accomodation the next day.

Yes, lots of times as MIA is my default route to Florida because of flights out of LHR.

I would suggest you overnight in Miami. It's a great place to visit and I'm sure lots of people can recommend places to eat and get a good nights sleep before the 4 hour drive to Orlando.

My usual routine is the Holiday Inn Miami Beach Oceanfront for the night as its a straight along Julia Tuttle Causeway from the airport. When you reach the sea, you reach the hotel! There is a few places to eat around there (local and chain places like Carrabbas) to get a decent meal before hitting the sack. Then I wake up about 8am US time and get going after the rush hour!

Seems to work for me as I find I get into the night/day routine. What do other people do?

When we considered doing Orlando via Miami, we planned to spend our first night in Fort Lauderdale. That's theoretical though because we've not actually done this trip yet.

we're always found it nice to stay in Pompano Beach just north of Fort Lauderdale - a world away from the hustle and bustle of Miami and great for relaxing.

Alternatively if it's just a quick stop, the Holiday Inn Express at Fort Pierce is roughly half way and very decent.

If you don't mind a 15 minute drive, check out The Pillars in Ft Lauderdale, other than that, the Holiday Inn is as good as any, plus you get miles.

We always stay overnight in the Grand Beach Hotel In Miami before driving to Naples the next day. It's really great. Especially if you have more than 2 in the room as it has two bathrooms, two TV's and 2 beds. And a balcony overlooking the ocean

We have stayed at The pelican Grand, Sun Towers (Fort Lauderdale) Residence Inn (Pompano Beach) Hilton Beach Resort (Sunny Isles), and this August we have booked the Sealord Hotel at Lauderdale-by-Sea. We always start the holiday with a few days on the beach to unwind, before driving to our house nr. Disney. All of these hotels are directly on the beach and very easy to get to after leaving MIA. The furthest one is only 40 minutes drive. Plus you could go to Saw Grass Mall for shopping before you drive up to disney!

Fort Lauderdale = Southend on Sea but with better weather. I did a stop over there last year and wouldn't repeat it.... :$
