I received the following email from the FC service team. It took 8 days, so not too bad on the response time.

The bit I don't quite get is if my 12-13 months cycle is from "1st June 2010 and is up to 30th June 2011" does that mean that tier points that I get in June will be counted in my June 2011-2012 year as well?
?|

The reply says they will "just drop off" although quite what they will drop off from is anybody's guess! :0

If June's points don't count to my June 2012 year, that would imply that the renewal year kept advancing a month each year - which I don't think is the case.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

Yours

Dear Martin

Thank you for your email. I apologise for the delayed response.

Having checked your Flying Club account, it's indicated that your Gold membership renewal period started from 1st June 2010 and is up to 30th June 2011. I notice that you have already qualified for your next Gold renewal. However if you earn any extra tier points before 30th June 2011, they will just drop off and will not be carried forward towards your next renewal period.

I hope I have been able to clarify some of our procedures and thank you for your continued loyalty to the Flying Club programme.

Kind Regards

Feedback:

Hi
Can you tell me when my membership year starts/ends? Or perhaps what dates are the start and end of my 12-13 months cycle. I thought it was in May, but we are now well into June and tier points are still being added to my last year. I'm obviously keen to renew as Gold next year.
Many thanks in advance
Martin

Hi Martin,

Thanks for posting, I received a similar response but had an added paragraph:

To make it easier for you to know how close you are to renewing your Flying Club status or moving towards a tier upgrade we've introduced a new 'Your Tier Points' page. The page's interactive display allows you to see exactly how many tier points you've earned to date, and how many more you will require to achieve an upgrade into a higher Flying Club tier. This should make it much easier for you to keep up to date and to plan your travel to maximize your tier status, and the benefits you can get from your membership. This new feature is available through our website to all members with an online account:

http://www.virgin-atlantic.com/en/gb/fr ... /index.jsp

The link seems to take me to the main TP page?

I logged into my FC account and can't see 'Your Tier Points' page anywhere either. Maybe it'll be up soon?

Rich - same for me, I've responded to the email I received to say that the link simply directs me to the general tier points page and isn't specific.

Another I.T. issue a la VS?

Martin - sorry in reference to this, I believe if you earn TP between 1st June 2010 and 30th June 2011, they will count within this years allowance. That means that if you'd hit the 30 TP needed for renewal by say 1st May 2011, any TP earned between 1st May 2011 and 30th June 2011 would simply "drop off" as VS have described and not count.

As of 1st July 2011 to 31st July 2012, your next membership year - you then earn 40 TP for AU renewal.

That's how I have understood it!

yes, the membership period advances each year, as its 13 months

Last year mine was 1st Sept 2009 to 30th Sept 2010

This year its 1st Oct 2010 to 31st Oct 2011

So my next one will be from 1st November 2011 to 30th November 2012

Had a response to my email, think some of the dates have been added incorectly to the email - but unless I heave read this incorrectly - I will need 30TPs to renew this membership year which ends in November 2011 and then 40TPs next year, that is fine and was what I hoped would happen, so please tell me I have understood this right.....

"Thank you for your email and apologies for the delayed response.

You may note that tier renewals are based on a Flying Club Gold members "membership year period". To make sure everyone has a full membership year to earn these points, the change will occur in 2 stages.

* If the gold membership year ends on or before 31 Aug 2012, members will require 30 tier points to retain gold membership.

* If the gold membership year starts on or after 01 Sep 2011, members will require 40 tier points to retain gold membership.

Your current renewal period is from 23rd November 2010 to 30th November 2011 which ends before 31st August 2012. Hence you will need to earn 30 tier points during this renewal period to maintain Gold status.

Your next renewal period will be from 1st December 2011 to 31st December 2012 and this membership year will start after 1st September 2011. Hence you will need to earn 40 tier points for the next renewal period
(01 Dec 11-31 Dec 12).

I hope I have been able to clarify some of our procedures and thank you for your continued loyalty to the Flying Club programme.

Reading this, it makes perfect sense! I think the confusion lies with the information on website and when logging into your FC account which states 31st Aug 2011 - rather than 21st August 2012.

Perhaps another mistake on the VS website?

If that is the case, VS would have saved themselves some serious resource by double checking. I can only imagine the number of calls, emails and Facebook messages that could have been avoided.

Perhaps VS take over a week to respond to an email simply based on the IT errors queried from the website!!

it does say 2012 0n this page

http://www.virgin-atlantic.com/en/gb/fr ... ership.jsp

However, to keep the great benefits that come with Gold (including our new Gold new mileage bonuses, and even more tiers points in Upper Class and Premium Economy), you now need the same number of tier points to renew your status as you did to earn it.

If your gold membership year ends on or before 31 August 2012, you will require 30 tier points to retain gold membership.
If your gold membership year starts on or after 01 September 2011, you will require 40 tier points to retain gold membership.

Thanks to all for the replies. Its amazing how VS have made this so incomprehensible to a group of intelligent, interested and committed customers.

Penny, Thanks for that info, it makes it a little clearer.
If my new year starts on 1st July it would have been really helpful if the FC email had just said that. I guess I'll find out in a couple of weeks time.

Cheers

Just another from Mumbai....

Dear Jonathan

Thank you for your recent email.

I can confirm that the date mentioned in my previous email (31st Aug 2012) is correct. This information is also updated on our website at the following link:

http://www.virgin-atlantic.com/en/gb/fr ... ership.jsp

You will need 30 tier points for this membership year and 40 tier points for the next renewal period to maintain your Gold membership status.

I hope this clarifies the situation and thank you for your active support of the Flying Club programme.

So I am pleased to have total clarity - now why did that take so long.... n(

I see they have updated this information on the general pages that explain the tier points to show August 2012 not 2011, but if you login to your FC account, and click on Your account it still shows the confusing August 2011

Yes it is a little odd that it rolls forward a month each renewal, as its 13 month cycles, not 12, but: what are we complaining about? It gives you an extra month to hit the target TP, so its a free bonus!

I met a very nice lady from Flying Club in the LHR Clubhouse on Wednesday 15th June and when I asked about the changes, she mantioned she was unsure becaue it is quite complicated. She also mantioned that she has had lots of questions about this and most members she talks to are unhappy ! I actaully felt sorry for her as she was very good at her job but has obviously not been given the information to pass on. v(

Also, where is the Tier Point calculator where you can check your future status by month ? It was a very useful tool. I can only imagine it's been removed to add to the confuusion ?? !! ii)
