Hey
I was looking on the va site where you can view where your flying from airports for some further info and when you choose LGW it mentions that access to the south terminal isn't possible and that you would gain access from north terminal then walk?!
Is this the issue? Or can I still get dropped off at the south terminal?
Thanks all!

Do you mean dropped off by another car?

Cars are no longer permitted to drop off on the departures level but can drop off on the lower level of the terminal. From there you just walk up the slopes with your cases to the check in area.

Don't panic Fordie, access is not from the north terminal but from the northern entrance to the south terminal.

From the VS site:

From 18th September 2010 customer access to the terminal will not be possible using the southern entrance closest to our check in area. All customers will need to access the terminal using the northern entrance and make their way from Zone F to Zone A once inside the terminal building. |:)

This is the info I was talking about?? Very confusing as the website for gatiwick wasn't too helpful and is the work still going on? And will I need to go to the north terminal? Lol
And yes I am getting dropped off via tristar through virgin Atlantic? And last year I was dropped off down the bottom of the terminal and went up the slopes?! But worried about this year haha

Remove the North terminal completely from your mind - it will not feature. v(

The South terminal normally has two entrances. Because of the building work going on one is closed. So you will use the other one - probably about fifty yards from the one that is shut. It will mean a similar distance walk in the terminal to get to the VS desks. y)

Thanks HWVlover! That sounds alot better now haha knowing me I would have ended up in the north terminal but as long as it's 50 yards away I won't mind walking a little further! I'm sure it will be signposted haha
Thanks

Because of all the improvement works currently being carried out at LGW North & South there are changes to what one may have been used to in the past, but don't fret, as previous posts have said, it'll be a few extra yards, that's all.

Enjoy your flight. y)

Glad I stumbled across this post, thats answered one question for me!

The other question I have is: How busy is Gatwick South early morning?

Years ago I flew Virgin to Vegas morning flight and have never seen so much chaos, you couldn't see the end of lines, people getting angry, passengers close to missing flights! really was quite a nightmare!

This year (6th sept) i'm flying Thomas Cook to Santorini departing 8am. I wondered if anyone knows how busy the terminal gets around 5am to check-in?

Any info will be gratefully appreciated! :)

Having seen the South Terminal at all hours of the day I would say that it all depends.

Even if the rest of the terminal is quiet, the queue to check in for your flight could stretch the length of departures. I have seen some of the longest check-in queues for Monarch and Thomas Cook at weird hours of the day (11pm and 4am) just because everyone on the same flight all arrived at the same time in the terminal.

As long as you give yourself a decent amount of time to get through security you will be fine. As there are now so many security checkpoints in the South Terminal I have found the queue for security to move fairly quickly - that is until you get stuck behind someone who doesn't understand the liquid rule. :P
