Sorry if this has been asked before but I did try to search without success.

Travelling to DXB with family (wife & 2 kids 17, 12) and have recently tried to book clubroom access as an extra to initial Virgin Holiday booking but have been told that they have no availability. I was told also that their allocation is limited and I might be able to book on the day.

Do you know if this is possible/likely or could I try another agent.

Our trip originates in Jersey and it is likely that we will be hanging around LHR for 7 or so hours - I appreciate that the clubroom time is limited to +/- 3 hours.

Many thanks.

Welcome to the site.

As you have found out the VH allocation is limited, so the chances of the changing before the day are unlikely I would say. On the day, it will just depend, and there really isn't any way of knowing until you ask at the desk.

Not sure when your flight is, but have you looked at some of the other lounge options, they aren't CH standard but still a place to get away from the quite dull T3.

Welcome to V-Flyer Sean

If you do get in to the Clubhouse, there is no limit to the time you can spend there (or indeed how much you choose to eat/drink).
As Neil says, it is down to availability/capacity on the day.
Good luck.

Thanks for your response.

I am not that familiar with T3. Have looked at Servisair - are there any others?

Seems that little or no chance of CH availability on the day but as we will be in LHR 7 hours before our 22:00 DXB flight, I wonder it it is worthwhile holding off booking a lounge until we get there. It seems to me that there is only slim chance of CH being available and if I am unsuccessful, we should be able find an alternative.

Is this strategy flawed?

Both servisaie and the new number 1 lounge opening soon both require advance booking and also charge extra for stays longer than 2-3 hours and for 4 of you will be Pretty pricy. have you considered a day room on a nearby hotel? Not a lounge but surely better than main deparures

Or rent a car and go and explore London?

I was just thinking about lugging hand baggage around on the tube. I appreciate not everyone wants to drive in London, I lived there for a few years so it doesn't bother me but I know it's not everyone's cup of tea. :)

6 hours in the number 1 lounge (opens mid august) for 4 adults would be £ 160 (your 12 & 17 yr olds count as adults) and there is a 6 hr maximum stay.

Not sure how much the servis air lounge would be or even if you can stay there for that long (didn't appear to be an option to extend your stay over 3 hrs on their website).

I'd be inclined to leave the hand luggage in the left Luggage place and either take the Tube into London (bearing in mind it will take the best part of an hour to get to Central London) or else go to the Central Bus Station and take a bus to Windsor and explore there

Depends what you wanted to do really. If chilling out before a night flight sounds like a better option, I'd research the leisure facilities at local hotels and book a day room. Sadly of course being the UK, we don't have lavish outdoor pool areas - but there are some indoor pools in local hotels.
Otherwise, I'd second the tube into London option. It's about 45 mins to Green Park from Heathrow, IIRC.

Tube is 49 mins to Covent Garden, 45 mins to Green Park or 36 mins to Earls Court. Not the fastest, but the cheapest (apart from bus...)

We found the Hilton pretty crap for accommodation last year but the pool was ok and if the room is just to bung cases in and you can use their exec lounge might be good?

If the LHR No 1 Lounge will be anything like the Gatwick North one is, then it's about as good as it gets for generic lounges. I used it flying LGW-ATL on DL last month, the day after it opened. I was expecting the old boring DL lounge. In contrast, the No 1 lounge is quite buzzy, very much akin to a Virgin lounge, and I commented on the way out to a positively proud and beaming lounge manageress that it appeared to be modelled that way. Waiter(ess) service, and you can get a haircut too. ISTR Champagne you have to pay for though.

Sadly I'd messed up my timings that morning, and what with a station evacuation at Victoria I only had ten minutes in there.
