I recently booked a trip from JFK to YVR through Continental being a partner airline of VS. I booked what I thought was a BusinessFirst ticket with Continental in order to get the 4 tier points (flight was over 2000miles) and entered my VS FF number into the booking. To my surprise, I got an email 24hours before to say that I was actually flying on an Air Canada plane which was codeshared with Continental.

Whilst Air Canada are codeshared through Star Alliance with Continental, Virgin are not aligned with Air Canada.

I took the flight three weeks ago but alas, no tier points (or miles for that matter) on my FC statement!

So here is my question; can I claim these tier points (and miles) from the 'missing miles request' or am I wasting my time as the flight was actually on an Air Canada plane?

Very grateful for any thoughts....

I suspect you are wasting your time - for all intents and purposes you flew on an unaffiliated airline, therefore will not be eligible for miles or tier points.

Might be worth ringing FC though to check.

f) Continental Airlines

Earning miles:
Miles may only be earned on flights operated by Continental and qualifying flights with Continental's domestic/regional feeder partners CO Express (Express Jet) and CO Micronesia.

Sounds like you're out of luck :(

Maybe if you sign up for bmi Diamond Club you could have it credited there? And then spend on any Star Alliance or other partners including VS.
