Hi VizBiz,
Have never been to Vegas in August but last September was nearly 115, we always stay at the bottom end of the strip as its a bit cheaper and the pools of the Luxor and Excalibur are really large so plenty of pool space and loungers so you are not cramped in at all, not much shade though. Every where is A/C so you can pop in any place along the strip to cool off and some have those sprays of cooling water, if you go out early am or later in the day not as hot.
As you do not have a lot of time would recommend a helicopter
flight over Vegas and the Grand Canyon well worth it and not too expensive.
There are 100's of places to eat and drink so depending on the good old all day buffett or specialised, it all depends on your budget everything is huge so a normal steak can be 10oz
Go onto any Vegas shows website and it will tell you whats on over your time there, there are plenty of ticket booths along the strip so you can get last minutes for most shows, and also each hotel has its own theme and they are free to look around.
The Bellagio fountains are free and the TI shows.
Have a great time and enjoy, we are there in just over 9 weeks
