Hello

Has anyone spent NYE in Times Sq? It's on my list but watching the videos on youtube, it looks pretty hectic!! I didn't expect it to be quiet as Times Sq is always busy, but does anyone have any experiences?

Any advice of where to go to watch the famous ball drop and what time to get there would really help!

Thanks

Luke :D

My advice would be to watch on the TV from a nearby bar. You will need to get to Times Square in the afternoon (sometimes earlier to get a good spot) and you will be stuck inside the barricades until after midnight with nowhere to go and no toilets to use without great difficulty!

All comments I've read from people say the same. You're penned in for hours and can't move or go to the toilet. If you want to do it, book somewhere, which won't be cheap, but better than being outside in the cold.

There's a large Mexican bar/ pub eatery opposite madam tussauds just off Times Sq, that does a mean margarita...and usual banks of TV's to watch the chaos..imagine sort of place that would generate a great atmosphere

The Westin is also very handy for Times SQ next door to the above

yes its hectic and to get a prime position you need to be there for hours in advance. they fill up the pens in strick order and there is no picking and choosing and if you leave there is no getting back in.

One of those experiences everyone says 'wow fantastic' but more because they are expected to say it rather than what they actually felt.

Sorry to be a downer !

But there are other places to celebrate NYE in NYC

The renaissance on times square is an amazing hotel, and I dont think you could get a Hotel closer to the action. Although you might want to e-mail the hotel to check if they are within the fenced in boundary for NYE. Once in a life time trip, so what if your uncomfortable for a few hour's, I'm sure it will be worth it.
