Am going to tease you all now (and you'll have to await the TR for description and photos) but the food on my Swiss flight yesterday (thursday) was absolultye sublime and to be frank should put VS to shame.

I know airline food is not easy to prepare etc but VS can and should do better.

The service included ice cream freshly scooped by the CC and was served in proper cones (and 2nd helpings were encouraged) and not in some plastic tub.

Give me a cheese burger + fries + ice cream any day over the VS UC menus, I think a lot of people feel the same way, perhaps VS should have a "junk" option or something, they just seem to try wayyy too hard with their UC menu.

A "junk" option would be fun, but as you'll see from tonty's TR you can try hard, and be successful. Swiss doesn't do junk, I assure you. They just do what they do well. Better than VS, better than US carriers (which are improving, though, and more on a par with VS if not better), and in C even better than LH.

Think of it this way. Every restaurant in the US save for asian ones serves a Caesar salad, more or less. But you aren't going to get the same thing every place. You can have a Caesar salad at Zuni, or you can have it in your local dive bar, same menu item, totally different experience. The problem comes when you go into your dive bar and see artichoke and sunchoke soup with shaved and seared abalone. You're gonna worry that they're gonna bring out glop dressed as something fancy, 'cause they're really otherwise always serving glop.

And, yes, I'll tell Kezar round my corner if they ever got crazy enough to put something like that on the menu to stick to burgers. In biz class on an aircraft, some folks can do more.

You do need to resist seeing as you have stated you are dubious of many of the choices and your advice was for people to take their own food on board.......

Jaguarpig did a TR a couple of years ago of a Chicago trip in LX First complete with pictures, it can be found by searching for Swiss First, though I couldn't get the pics to load. Gave a very good feel for the experience, which is as you say one of the best in the air. It's hard to spend *A miles any other way, really.

Dubious, yes, but I didn't say that I wouldn't eat it myself. I seem to remember suggesting to those having a real paddy about the offerings that they could probably find something edible and that things would not be as bad as they might think....

Yes, the ultimate suggestion is always to take your own food (like one would do with a particular child) - you can't go wrong....

Hey well I wouldn't pay the money they ask for first class but if you can get it using any star alliance miles (bmi diamond club) then it's an absolute steal. Redemptions to North America are harder to come by now but can be done with a lot of persistence. I have my next Swiss first experience in September and can't wait.
Thanks for your TR's tonts I'm too lazy to do them!

Good to know about the cat ;)

Please don't 'post bump', it isn't good netiquette - if someone is able to answer then I am sure they will. If an answer doesn't come, it is likely because nobody can answer it.

Thanks,

We don't have a naughty step or a 'right crowd', we do however have certain rules and ways.

My request was just a note for future reference :)

Well your "certain rules and ways" aren't readily obvious, so I only find out when I break them.
Whether you admit it or not there is a definite clique on here and, as I clearly don't know UC etiquette I'm going to stick out like a sore thumb in the CH and on-board.
I'm out of my league here so "turning right" and just going to lurk quietly.

You have no reason to feel that you will stick out like a sore thumb either in the CH on once onboard. For me, one of the best features of VS is how relaxed the whole thing is in the premium cabins.

I think you will be pleasantly surprised how comfortable you will feel. Firstly, don't be afraid to let them know it is your first time, the CH staff will give you a little tour and onboard the crew will again be really helpful. Also, remember, you have paid for all the benefits and extra levels of service. Don't feel bad for making sure you get the most out of it, anything you aren't sure of just ask, but most importantly, rather than worrying about sticking out and not knowing the 'rules', embrace your surroundings and enjoy it y)

As for the site, we just follow basic forum rules. Also, please don't misinterpret friendship and closeness as a clique. Lots of our members have been using the site for a long time and have become friends both on and offline, so whilst it might seem like a clique, it is only natural banter and friendship.

The one thing we do pride ourselves on, is being friendly, helpful and inclusive to all members.

As Mods we are allowed to break/change the rules to suit us, especially when we are trying to give something to the membership, it's our prerogative ;)
