DL the Elder's replacement passport (for the one she lost in IAD a few weeks ago ) has arrived thia am. Will she now need to re- register for IRIS again or will her details just transfer ? She's used the channel regularly, including back at LHR after said journey (which at least saved her the indignity of having to produce the bumph which UK immigration had sent through for her pre departure from IAD :w ).
Thanks.

You don't need to re register but you do have to inform them of the changes, I've just tried to post a link but it's not working ?| .

Full details can be found on the UK Border Agency's Website.

My wife lost her passport a month or two back and had to get a new one; the new one included a bit of paper that stated that - because it was a new-whizzy biometric chip RFID passport - she was no longer eligible for IRIS.

She can, apparently, use the new biometric passport readers instead, but no idea what or where they might be. Be interested to find out anyone else's experiences, as I can't see why this would have to be the case?

Drew

EDIT: actually, looking at it, I guess she (+ DL the Elder too) should just use these instead of the IRIS gates?

If the passport or travel document you used to register for IRIS is lost or stolen and you have obtained a new one, you must visit an IRIS enrolment room and ask the staff there to amend your record.

Good find Lord Decker, so if a straight renewal then no, if lost or stolen then yes, it would seem?

I used these gates at LHR T4 in February - there was a lady from UKBA standing at the entrance to the immegration hall encouraging biometric passport holders to use it rather than see a person.

It reads your passport then compares it to your face - you have to look into a camera and it does its whizzy biometric thing.

I used them in T5 in April. they are a lot quicker than waiting in the line for a person and you should find them to the side of immigration in most european airports (Paris-CDG also had them)

Oh I am so behind the times ... are these the machines that were recently being installed to the left of Iris in T3 immigration?

So, I have a biometric passport (I think, got it in Sep last year), do you do anything other than go to the machine, scan, do face recognition? Do you need another registration process?

You do not need to do anything. I got a new passport in the last year and used the E-Gates a few weeks later.

Nope - I just walked up to it. No pre-registration required.

If your passport has a little square on the front with a line and a circle through the middle then its a new style biometric one.

Yippee, Biometric here I go ... so now three options at T3, new machines, Iris, or snail chain queuing!
