I'm planning a trip to Singapore in November and will be meeting a friend who is coming in fro the west coast of America landing at about 2:30pm. My original plan was to take the 18:15 flight from LHR the day which gets in at about 3pm just after my friend's arrival. I have just noticed however that this is on a 777 and not an A380 as I had hoped. My choices are the 10:30 am getting in at 7:10 the following day (which would mean an overnight stay in LHR) or one at 22:05 getting in at 18:45 the next day. Both are indicating that there are only a few seats left in J

Which would you take and why?

When I've been to Singapore in the past, I've been on the flight that departs about 6pm as it arrives at a nice time in Singapore - it allows you to get to the hotel, unpack and have dinner before going to sleep at normal time.

However how much do you want to fly on the A380?

Lots! But there's nothing stopping me getting the triple 7 out and the A380 back :D

Normally I'd go with the flught that is best price wise but then again I'm not a plane geek desperate to fly on different planes.

That said it is the A380 in J ...

Given the flight times I'd go for the 22:05 departure with its evening arrival so hotel, unpack, dinner, sleep.

(edited to remove references to Emirates !)

Tonty, the price is the same regardless of the price although if I were to do it as a VS codeshare the non-A380 is dearer!

In fact, IIRC, the 777 product in J is identical to the A380 one (at least for the 777s they use out of LHR), so when all is said and done you aren't apt to notice all that much difference. Couple this with the possibility of picking the A380 for the return and I think you have your answer. It's going to be an exciting trip.

Ah, well. You snooze, you lose! ][|) Or perhaps I didn't check properly :|

I decided to go with the triple 7 and get there the same time as my friends but when I went to the website to book and clicked on that flight the fare shot up by a whopping £900+ Clicking around the website produced the same result when I tried different dates so I reckon the lower buckets of J are just not available on that plane. I decided that I could do a lot more with that £900+ so I'm now on the later flight

Thanks, though for your input. I would have followed your advice but for the fare

I saw that! Went and checked for kicks what it would cost to do it these days (haven't done LHR-SIN in a looong time), clicked, all same fare, clicked around some more to see other options, clicked back and the fare had changed!

Maybe SIN were kibitzing this thread and decided to pull a fast one on you! I wonder if they will let you change to the earlier flight if the fares change back...
