So, I'm flying back on VS030, BGI/LGW on Dec 31st:D

Now then, scheduled departure is 17:40 BGI time, arrive 05:50 on 1st Jan in LGW UK time.

So, when should I celebrate new year?

And, has anyone else done this, are VS likely to do anything to mark the occasion on board?

I've flown at this time, nothing happens. As most people actually want to sleep on an overnight I can imagine a few would be upset if they set the PA system off and had a party at midnight.

NYE is meaningless to me, I don't need to be told to have a party I do it when I like :)

That would be fun wouldn't it, a recording of big ben over the PA:D

I'm just curious as to when 24:00 would be in this situation, more out of academic interest than having a need to leap up and wish everyone "happy new year":V

Set watch to UK time before leaving Barbados.
Start celebrating when time shows midnight in the UK.
Reset watch to Bajan time.
Stop celebrating when it shows midnight in Barbados. y)

I agree y) We often travel at this time as it is usually cheap(er) in J. As we dont celebrate NYE an objection would be raised if anything disturbed our flight or sleep to aknowledge it. :)

remember the kerfuffle over the 'wedding tea' !

I think it's ok to have say a celebratory glass of something fizzy ofered with the meal or turkey on Christmas Day (or thanksgiving as I had on one flight) but to celebrate 'midnight' when people might be sleeping etc is a bit much. Not everyone likes or celebrates NYE.

We flew back from MBJ (PE) quite a few years ago on 31st Dec and were offered a nice glass of champagne with dinner, was a nice touch but after dinner it was lights out and sleep!

Was on a charter flight probably about ten years ago, think it was on first choice or whatever they were called back then, at midnight it was loudly announced over the PA and the crew were running down the aisle dancing :-/ not classy at all!!

I flew East last New Years Eve LHR>DXB in UC. Like others, it's pretty much just another day to me (this year I'll be flyng back from DXB). I did get woken up but by my daughter, not the crew. We were flying over Austria at "their" midnight. It was quite spectacular, seeing the fireworks from above. Worth seeing once, but no equivalent over the Atlantic I guess.

We did it once on a Virgin flight coming back from NY and the crew were wearing various New Year hats and tiaras, the Captain arranged an adults and a kids quiz with prizes. It was a good atmosphere y) I can't remember any complaints...

I don't recall at which point if any we actually celebrated midnight itself :?

When we landed at London 2 of the crew gave my girls their tiaras which made their holiday ^)
