Laptops as hand baggage

Can I bring a carry-on suitcase and a laptop bag as hand baggage?Yes, but only if you’re travelling in Upper Class.

If you’re travelling in Economy or Premium Economy, you can only take one piece of hand baggage on board. So, if you want to have your laptop bag with you, you'll need to check the other bag in.

Please be aware that if you do this and you’re already checking in another piece of baggage, you’ll need to pay an additional baggage fee.

Take a look at our hand baggage and excess baggage pages for more details.

To save time and money you can now purchase extra baggage online.

I have always taken 1 carry on bag and my Laptop in another bag and this has never been a problem!! Have the rules changed recently as the last time I flew with Virgin (June 9th) this was not a problem and I am flying again in 2 weeks and need this clarified that this wont be a problem now

Interesting point. I have travelled in all 3 cabins and never had a 'quantity of bags' problem (one small suitcase and one laptop bag).
Last year they were awkward (depending on who checked you in) about the weight of your suitcase. I have noticed that so far this year it has not been an issue so maybe common sense has prevailed.

I've always solved that problem by putting the laptop into the other bag, then taking it out on the plane...

I put my notebook bag inside my flight bag. I don't think men should be penalised for having a laptop bag as well as a flight bag. After all, ladies are allowed a handbag as well as a flight bag and some handbags are as big as shopping bags these days. :)

I was asked to put my handbag inside my carry-on bag at Gatwick a couple of months back, and its not a large handbag. But security at Gatwick would only allow one item

Coming back from ORD in May people flying other than UC customers were asked at the gate to hand over additional luggage before boarding. I must admit some people did have rather large pieces of "hand luggage" I've never seen this before so don't know if it was a one off.
