After our BA flight to Athens which arrived around 92:30, this Aegean flight left at 05:25. Athens airport around this time is relatively busy with peopl sleeping on the floor and hanging around waiting for the early morning flights to the islands. The check-in desks weren't open after we had got our bags, so we had to wait for an hour or so.

Once we had dropped our bags off, we headed to th "A gates" (B gates are through passport control). The odd thing is security is only done near the actual gates so you can buy any liquids in th shopping area an so long as you keep the receipt(s) yo can get it through security.

We had a bus gate unfortunately - most of the bridge gates were taken up with Europe flights that had been parked up overnight. There s an off-terminal area were a lot of the domestic flights go from.

The flight was less than half full - we managed to get a row between the two of us. Boarding was interesting - although the said 1-16 front stays and above 18 back stairs, people boarded as they saw fit and just pushed past each other!

Long taxi out to the runway and then off over to Kos. The sun started coming up during the flight so some views of the islands. during the flight of less than 40 minutes, the crew happily did a drinks and snack service.

Kos airport is relatively small - similar to LCY there are no tugs, so the planes all park so they can simply "drive out" on departure. Buses to the arrivals though and luggage off relatively quickly.

One word of warning about car hire. We had booked with Avis and noted that they weren't "open" until 08:00. However on arrival we noticed there is NO Avis desk in Kos airport. The actual office is Kos town and they semd someone down with the car to dekuver it. Since we had given our flight night and they knew we arrived pre-8 am they had sent someone to the airport before 8. This meant before we could get the car we had to agree to a before 8am drop off fee of 23 Euros. In addition when we got home, we discovered they had charged us an addition day hire for the time between 06:45 and 08:00. Avis UK sorts it out, but really poor service indeed.

Anyway back to the flight - short and pretty uneventful, but the crew were friendly and cheerful despite the time of day!
