Nice ad, God I wish we could start a campaign and get Concorde back, ok so it was a bit cramped inside, but just the look of it and the climb up those stairs - ah happy memories

Saw something somewhere as well that heralds a massive investment programme over the next 5 years - foot on the pedal now that industrial relations are sorted out?

I really like that, great production quality, though a bit ponderous at the end ("To Fly, To Serve" ...). Shame they use Speedbird 1 in a 747 shot (it ain't, it's an A318 from LCY) and sad to see Concorde.

Interestingly both VS and BA have a similar number of followers on Facebook, VS taking the lead there proportionally.

I quite agree with that as it doesn't represent the actually service BA offer their pax. I'm not a BA fan here though, never have been and never will be.

Well VS have never shown reality in their ads either, and they are the masters of spin when it comes to marketing.

As usual, the pro VS people will hate it, but it's being talked about so it's doing its job.

I quite agree with your comments, I suspected the advert would hardly reap rich accolades from a pro vs site :?

FWIW I think its a good advert but I am always easily pleased :|

Compared to VS's current advert which is all glamour and no substance!

Isn't all advertising tosh - especially where it's about brand placement?

From a production perspective, I thought it was a really good ad. In terms of brand building against Emirates, Virgin et al, BA’s heritage is its strength.

Some people I have spoken to didn’t quite get the message, but it is the start of a big campaign and there are more TV ads to follow.

There also press ads, three of which are below:

http://www.marketingweek.co.uk/Journals ... eering.pdf

http://www.marketingweek.co.uk/Journals ... -heart.pdf

Even if you don’t like BA, a more confident BA (which has been on the back foot for the past few years) is better for the marketplace as a whole.

What does confidence have to do with delivering a service and creating a product ?

Personally I like it. At least there seems to be a specific focus on customer service/ satisfaction. I didn't like the last VS campaign as it seemed a bit pointless (in a fur coat, no knickers sort of way) .

And that Dear Lady D is the best summary of VS's marketing!

Yes. What has confidence got to do with that?

The commentary is a bit hyperbolic but I like the historical angle and I thought the some of the photography was very attractive.

OT but I also like the recent New First video.

I wasn't comparing it to the VS advert but as a piece of work on it's own - and thats why I thought it was tosh.

It told me nothing about flying BA today. Yes a nice nostagia trip for some; but for many it will be 'what is that all about?'

Having a product/service isn't enough, you need to have a brand positioning behind it and you need to put yourself out there and tell people about it, which of late, Virgin has done with considerably more confidence than BA. Consumers engage with brands not products and can relate to brands that have a story to tell, which is what BA is doing with this campaign.

And the campaign is backed up by a number of product/service initiatives. See BA press release:

http://press.ba.com/?p=1916

I'm sure it wasn't coincidence that Virgin re-ran the Bond ads last weekend, so they are responding.

Have just seen another airline advert that is a load of tosh that tells you nothing about the airline.

The Air France dancing couple.

This advert is OK, I still won't fly BA.

A few of friends who are BA crew are feeling very "proud" so perhaps one of the aspects is to assist internally and create a brand it's staff are proud of. (Until of course their is more industrial action!)

I still think ANZ have the best commercials with Rico.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mf6rEf1p ... ure=relmfu

They don't really tell you anything at all, but anyone who is familar with a certain MEERKAT in the UK, will know that marketing fads like this work! (even 2 years later)

In my view, airlines will always paint a pretty picture, how true this is will only be determined based on personal experience.

I actually quite like it. BA have done pretty well with it IMHO. They have realised (after the farce of the world tail saga) that people like to fly them because of their heritage and the fact that they are 'stereotypically British'. Everything that they have released of late makes a play on their history and Britishness.

The strapline- is actually the moto on their Coats of Arms, which will now be featured on their aircraft once again (being painted in silver behind the British Airways name on the fuselage).

It also is done well to apease the staff who have been less than supportive of the airline recently. Interestingly a friend of mine who is a QF 744 pilot actually said that he wished QF would do a similar drive, an advert that made the staff proud.

Another interesting point, BA's drive for Britishness has come at the exact time that VS seem to distance themselves from it with the dropping of the 'Britains Flag Carrier' slogan and Union Jack winglets.
