Many moons ago we managed to book a 'free' UC flight using 100k miles but this was before the girls were at school and so was in February. We are now pretty much tied to the Easter and summer school holidays.

For our flight in August this year I booked M+M as I couldn't find anything else available.

In the next day or so our flights will be released for our Aug 2012 dates and I am wondering if things have improved at all when trying to spend miles for trips during the school hols? I doubt it but thought I would ask? I also have an AMEX PE upgrade to use but again doubt I will be able to? We are tied to dates being 5/6th Aug to the 31st Aug.....

Am I best to just stick to M+M fares, I can make a saving of around £600 IIRC for the four of us....... or is it worth me giving the FC a ring tomorrow to see if they have anything?

Thanks in advance.

All you need to know about the price and availability of flights to/from the UK next summer!

In all seriousness, an award (especially UC) to MCO in the school holidays is going to be like gold dust. I would suggest if you can save money on M+M then do it.

The other alternative is to go from LHR to JFK and then connect down to MCO on JetBlue. The NY routes nearly always have reward availability.

Very popular route of course. If you are talking UC then at present only 14 seats.

If only there was a simple answer to this, but the fact is VS will decide what offers to make based on their need to fill flights and make the most money out of us.

If you book now at a price you can live with then you have achieved your objective - a holiday flight when you want it.

It is entirely possible a better deal may become available subsequently - it is also possible that you may not get the dates you want or indeed prices go up.

Personally, I would wait a couple of weeks after the flights come on sale because in my experience the initial prices can be a bit high. But if you then see a price you like, take it, book it and never, ever check the price again!

May be worth considering LHR - MIA; don't know about school hols but loads more G class tickets at other times. I'll let everyone know how this works out after my flight next week. Also, agree that MCO via JFK is an option - long day travelling if you have young children though...

Hi and thanks for all the replies.

I've gone ahead and booked PE M&M MAN to MCO for Aug 2012. No matter how hard I try the thought of indirect just seems a bridge too far. I did speak to FC but nothing else available (which didn't surprise me) but she also said that she had six families on her waiting list for reward seats on the 31st Aug!

I am a bit disappointed not to be going on the A330 as we have really enjoyed our recent flights mainly due to the IFE keeping the girls occupied. Fingers crossed we will be on a refurbed 747. It would appear that we won't be able to 'reserve' our seats until OLCI which is also the case for our Easter 2012 return flight.
