I suggest a visit to Downton Abbey !

Thanks for the prod, DL. y)

For a whole host of reasons (none of them very good), the V-Flyer (organised) social calender has been non-existent this year.

An early 2012 get together, in the guise of the PCP (Post Christmas Party) is an excellent idea. ^) :D

As always, we accept that we won't please everyone in respect of date, venue or activity, but are open to anyone's suggestions as to how to pass a day / evening of socialising.

Iain has suggested another Eurostar odyssey, and Tonty wants us to go to Downton Abbey (wherever that is 8D ). Anyone else got any ideas?

Downton Abbey should be in Yorkshire according to the series, but in reality is in Berkshire!

Fancy dress?

Nick, I don't think Iain was suggesting another Eurostar trip but one such as the ones Sealink takes up and down the UK courtesy of the various rail companies and for very reasonable prices

Ah.... thanks HL, I would be up for that if it was doable with a big party. y)

I feel with Eurostar that we have been there, done that. I think it is a while since we have done the boat trip thing, but that is more a summer trip.

All suggestions welcomed.

Nick

It came up as part of FB thread on Downton Abbey I host whilst watching it.

HoneyLamb wanted to be 'Mrs Hughes', I was going to be the Dowager Duchess (AKA Dame Maggie) and HVWLover wanted to be either Bates or Miss O'Brien !

All other parts up for grabs !

We were all newbies once :) ,and I was made to feel very welcome at the first social I attended.
OK, on the cruise theme how about a cruise around Cardiff Bay
and a weekend soaking up all that Cardiff has to offer (which is quite a lot actually :) ).? Not quite the Irish sea but at least it would be like a mill pond (unlike the Irish Sea :$ ).
Or perhaps a weekend in Benidorm...... :0 :0

Looking to slope off into your own comfortable bed after a day out getting messy?

Benidorm, now you're talking!

Well I wouldn't actually. The thought of being berated by Dragonbaby on returning home is simply not worth it. I'd rather stay in a hotel and avoid her disapproval LOL!!
Benidorm ( wasn't someone complaining that we were an elitist bunch ???? ): ): ):) would be a hoot :D.

Irish Sea - winter/spring - :$ :$ :$ :$ :$

Highclere aka Downton Abbey - I've decided to be Miss O'Brien - y)

Cardiff - y) - ideally while Number 2 daughter still lives there and therefore able to provide sanctuary!!!!!.

However, couldn't we do Paris (not Disneyland)? I know it was done a few years ago but a lot of newbies (including me) would appreciate the opportunity to visit such as the Musee D'Orsay nevermind see Dame Jacki et al ENJOY the train journey!!

Hey - you could fly to London and then back again ... imagine just like SFO via AMS?

There's my trip to Belfast in Feb... you're welcome to join for a night or two or three.

PM me for more!

Oh and I'm delighted my train trips are enjoyed.
Booze Cruise in Feb doesn't appeal - the Irish Sea is a fickle mistress!

I really was joking when I mentioned 'Downton Abbey' ! I'm not sure I could cope with dividing the group into upstairs and downstairs and the allegations of elitism that would generate!

I agree a booze cruise does not appeal.

Paris would be nice as not been before and I understand that the past trip there was a riot !

As would Cardiff (not been there for a couple of years) but plenty to see and do and shop as well as pubs and places to eat etc. and it is doable ina day too.

You could do a Fishguard Booze Cruise. Wave as you go past. ):

I'd rather do a Cork-Swansea booze cruise. Longer time at sea for boozing :D

Only problem is that I am inclined to sea :$
