Universal's Halloween Horror Nights

Dean (Wolves27) is a big of of horror films and it turns out that the Universal Studio's Halloween Horror Nights start while we are here.

Has anyone been? Any thoughts, advice, words of wisdom or stories to share?

For those who don't know about them Islands of Adventure closes early on scare nights and re-opens for a seperated ticketed event - the horror night. They parks are re-dressed, re-lit and are a hell of a lot scarier! It runs until about 2am with some of the rides also available. They have a variety of haunted houses, all with stories, themes, Scare-actors and plenty of screams from those who enter. Around the park they have scare zones too with plenty of scare-actors. Ya know, people in full costumes and makeup chasing you round the park with a chainsaw screaming in your ear or weilding axe's shouting at you.

Anyway, we are going tomorrow night and if we live through it I'll post a review and some pics of I can get some. Really not too sure about it though.

Yup - went a few years back. They filled the park with fog, had weird armless/legless (not in the mcuth sense [:p]) characters wandering around. Options to go through a TRULY scary haunted house, sit in a coffin while they fill it with nasty creatures, parades, live music shows... the list goes on.


VERY cool, VERY scary (for the younger audience, for sure), VERY much worth the money... [y][y][y]

And there I was trying to work out whether you meant that I was "weird", "armless" or "fogged"

We went to this last year. My biggest tip would be that if you don't want to spend most of your evening queueing pay the extra and buy a fast pass so that you can bypass the very long queues!! We actually went on Halloween night (31st Oct) so that may have made it busier than the norm.

The walk in to the park was done very well - very entertaining. We found it was quite a fun evening but found there is a limit to how many zombies can leap out on you.......although I still jumped & screamed everytime!!!

Don't set your expectations too high and you'll have a great evening. Before going in we had a few bevvies at the Bob Marley bar and that helped[y] Enjoy yourselves

Anyone know how much it is? We're off a week today and quite fancy this one. Has anyone done Mickey's Not-So-Scary Hallowen-en Party? That's for the sissy in me (that'd be the part that's also looking forward to the refurbished It's A Small World - oh, the shame!) [:I]

Thanks for that...it's a bit pricey but then I don't think I'll ever be going back at this time of year to do it again (teachers aren't usually allowed on hols out of term time, but was moving jobs and nearly threw in teaching so managed it, albeit unpaid [:(]).

Well we had a fantastic night!!

Unfortunately we didn't know about the Express Pass that you can buy before you go so didn't have one, and we got there a bit late (9pm with a midnight close) so only got to visit three of the houses.

Two tips, get there early and if you can buy an Express Pass thingy wossit - we were in one queue for about 50mins.

I have to say it exceeded my expectations, it is incredibly well done. You go in through the entrance while they are playing some great atmospheric music and the place is full of smoke, and I mean full. And then all you can hear every so often is the roar of a chain saw and the scream of people running.

The Scare-Actors around the park in the Scare Zones do a fantastic job and are very menacing and scary, just about everyone does everything they can to avoid them - well the ones they can see.

We did Blood Ruins, Where Evil Hides (our longest queue), Body Collectors. All where very good, but for us Body Collectors was the scariest - we ran through some parts and the exit screaming!

Also a lot of the rides operate, but since we really wanted to do the houses we only rode on Duelling Dragons (my fave coaster in the park). Ice in the dark is definately worth doing.

If you have a chance to go to a Horror Night do go - its great fun! We will certainly be returning.

NEWSFLASH!

Don't buy these tickets online or over the phone! I tried to get them online and was going to take the advice of fellow V-Flyers and get the Express Pass too. However, the website kept gettinng into a loop and I couldn't melt my credit card no matter how hard I tried. So I decided to give them a bell and the lovely lady on the phone told me that the best thing to do was buy the tickets when I got there as she'd have to charge me $64 each plus $26.26 Express Pass each, but if I bought them there it would be $26.26 each plus $26.26 Express Each. Cough, splutter! A bit of a difference then.

I think we'll go on a Sunday as she said it's much quieter than a Fri or Sat and she's never known a Sunday sell out, ever. Hey, when I am on holiday I've no idea what day of the week it is, and the same rides and shows will be going on so I'm all for the cheaper tickets and quieter days.

Hope this helps anyone else considering it.
