VS003 Divert to KBGR

I see that last nights VS003 was diverted to KBGR. Not a great place to be stranded!

The VS website is showing that this flight has terminated at BGR. Was there bad weather on the East Coast yesterday? It seems strange that it wouldn't continue on to JFK, unless the crew were out of hours, but on a relatively short flight this seems unlikely?

Yes, there was/is a winter storm (rather early) -- have a look on the news sites. For a little while some planes weren't landing at JFK and I think EWR was affected too. I actually flew out to NYC yesterday, but on a BA flight which made it in after a very choppy approach. The preceding BA flight was diverted to Bangor, like VS3, but it then did make it to JFK later.

Have got to get up to Montreal today, which may be interesting.

Not sure why it was terminated at Bangor but might have been crew hours. I know both JFK and EWR were affected and air Traffic delays were pretty excessive too.

EWR was badly affected with some flights experiencing delays of 5-6hrs!

I think it was the wind that caused the delay.

The worst of the wind/snow and resulting damage was more inland - my friend who was suupposed to drive in to Manhatten from New Jersey was blocked in by fallen trees,

Where I was in Manhattan and Brooklyn yesterday it was very windy and rainy and some sleet but deffo no snow that laid other than some snow in parks but the roads/ pavements were all clear.

I think it varied quite a lot depending on where you were. Snow did settle at JFK. My understanding is that it wasn't just wind that caused problems, but also concerns about runway slipperiness.

I came in from JFK between 7 and 8 pm yesterday and a fair amount of snow had also settled in Brooklyn. This morning snow was visible still on the roofs of buildings around the World Trade Center site, though it melted quickly. And there was a good inch or so visible on the Robert Kennedy bridge this morning.

Hope it wasn't too grim for the people on the VS3...

Flew into JFK on JetBlue at about 5pm yesterday and suffered the worst turbulence I've ever experienced - back of the plane, circling just south of NY at about 10,000ft for a good 45 minutes. Never seen so many people suffer the effects of turbulence and so many sick bags required. Plenty of wet snow on the ground and the planes at JFK

5 hour delay to my connecting flight to BOS, and the three flights after ours had already been cancelled due to the weather, lack of planes/crew in the right place, and out of hours. Relatively smooth flight on an Embraer 190, which I was dreading after the early approach.

On the plus side, the JetBlue terminal at JFK is one of the nicer places to get delayed - plenty of good restaurants and bars.

It went out last night as a VS104. At one point stands B26 & B28 stands at JFK had an A346 for the VS104 and an A346 for the VS10. This cuased a delay to the VS46, that I was booked on, as there was no stand available for it and VS can only make use of two. They had to tow the VS10 aircraft away for a while and tow in Cosmic Girl to operate the VS46. We left about an hour late, but due to strong tail winds had a short 5 hours 46 mins flying time so still arrived on time.

That seems a bit odd as in extreme circumstances you'd think they would put the third aircraft on a remote stand and bus the passengers.

i heard that VIR103 couldve left KBGR about 6 hours earlier but as the outbound wasnt leaving KJFK until later that evening it was cheaper to leave the a/c in KBGR until near the time tha paying the large parking rates at KJFK. VS had already incurred the overnite accomodation chargs so the story could make sense. Is this a possibility or is this rumour nonsense. If it is true then its a really shabby way to treat the passengers as I hd a friend who was told to wait at KBGR for many hours before the flight finally departed.

Agreed however that was the explanation given by the crew on VS046
