Heading out for a week in beautiful Grenada, wasn't quite sure what to expect as i'd heard it was much quieter than other Caribbean islands i've visited in the past. However the flight was just a great start to a great holiday on a great island 8D

Arrived at Gatwick around 7ish to check in, there wasn't a great big queue to check in however only our flight and the VS69 to Kingston were displayed on the boards, didn't take long the check in agent seemed friendly enough then explained the baggage belts were under going work that morning and we needed to take the cases down to the end where they would be placed in bins. Did so and they were collected effciently by baggage handlers waiting at the bins - smooth! :)

Off up the 'new' security area which is now upstairs for anyone who hasn't flown from Gatwick recently, I say 'new' because i've used it back in July but it is very spacious and impressive. Although it does look like a great new facility the only thing that catches me out each time is the part where you scan your boarding card before going through, myself and a number of other people appeared to struggle to do this with ease, maybe thats just because i'm or we're should I say am not used to doing this or equally I could put it down to age these days?

Anyway, through security, little walk around the shops in the departure lounge then down to gate 13 for boarding, yes.. 13.. :0 Sat around for a while before boarding for special assistance and Upper Class were called for boarding *queue the rest of the passangers aswell* - I never understand why people can't just wait until they're called?.. :w

Oh well, we're off on holiday! Premium Economy was then called ^) and we were shortly onboard Virginia Plain (G-VTOP) - YES! out of every Virgin aircraft i've flown on shes seen me the most, I like to think of ourselves as old friends now..

Took our seats in row 81, personally I love the little downstairs PE cabin, well row 81 anyway as it just feels nice to be in a small cabin, sat in row 81 before but in the middle block of seats and it was still nice to have the bulkhead infront. Welcome drinks were served along with entertainment, yes, entertainment as the UK customs team decided to board the aircraft and do a search of the downstairs PE cabin only, really? I know these checks have to be made but surely they could have just done this before everyone was boarded? Well good job it was only the small cabin downstairs! Although it was quite funny to see everyone standing around in the front galley with their drinks in hand having a little snoop into what the UC cabin looked like ):

Checks were done and we were soon to be off to Tobago and Grenada, flight time of 8 hours 5 minutes to Tobago given and we were up into the air just after 10am!

One highlight had to be flying right over the Top Gear test track soon after take off! Entertainment was switched on quickly - i'm actually quite a fan of the Oddesey system - don't hate me! Maybe i'm just used to the older system asfter years of flying from Gatwick?

Watched a few tv shows and a movie, lunch was served, forget exactly what it was but it tasted nice y) then watched a movie and got forty winks, the FSM was serving or side of the aisle, well at least I think it was, please correct me if i'm wrong but he was very friendly - having conversations and just generally providing a good service y)

Flight went so quickly - before I knew it we landed smoothly into Tobago where the sun had just come out, around half the passengers got on at this point and the toilets were unlocked, a water service was done at this point (as we were on the ground for around an hour) and passangers were walking around talking to one another - it was a really nice feel!

Time to go onto Grenada, the safety video was shown again, not sure why as no one else had got on the aircraft the only passangers were those who had already seen the video when we left Gatwick?

20 minutes later and we were landing in Grenada - very hard landing compared to the smooth landing we had just had in Tobago - afterwards the captain came over the PA and appologised ):

Immigration took a while then the bags were out quickly but getting through the 'green/red channel' was awful, we were some of the first in the queue and waited 15 minutes for them to just ask questions to which the answers were already written on the forms we gave them!

Anyway it was a great flight to start a great holiday - just shows that when Virgin get it right they do get it so right y)

Thanks for the TR y)

I know that Gatwick is often belittled here on V Flyer, but I do think the new Management there are starting to make progress. We went through the enormous security area on the upper level and this was a joy last month

Hope the return was just as good
