It is many years since I have flown into JFK and as I will be arriving late evening I don't want to travel any further for that day. I don't think there are any hotels actually on site at JFK so can anyone please recommend a hotel conveniently close to the Virgin Terminal? Preferably one with a reliable courtesy bus !
Thank you.

I've used the Courtyard New York JFK Airport previously and it was fine, with a courtesy bus to and from the hotel available. Have used it when on the first VAA flight out to LHR.

Just a little bit of "helpful to know" info - the shuttle buses to the hotels pick up from the Car Rental area so you need to take the Airtrain there from the terminals. However, the shuttle buses drop you back off at the terminals. :)

Thank you so much for that info Tinkerbelle. I am really pleased to know that ahead of arriving there.

I've stayed at both the Courtyard and Fairfield Inn - Marritot rewards points earned at both. A complimentary hot/cold breakfast included at the Fairfield Inn. Both hotels have shuttle buses which do pick you up at the car rental stop on the airtrain but drop you at the departing terminal for your flight.

Staff at both were friendly and helpful and you are welcomed with warm cookies at the Fairfield Inn y)

Are you staying in Manhattan as your 'final destination'? If so I would suggest that staying at JFK for the night would be a bit of a waste given that Manhattan can be reached in an hour.

No. We have to get to a place called Mahwah in New Jersey and after a long late flight I would not be up to travelling much further that day.

I am surprised that only one person has suggested going to Manhattan. I agree with clarkeysntfc -- personally, I would just jump into a taxi and get to a nice hotel in Manhattan. Late at night it shouldn't take too long to get in. And it really isn't much more of a faff than trekking up to the AirTrain and the courtesy buses. That can take longer than you bargain for.

Plus, you get MUCH better hotel options, and the prospect of a nice view on the ride in.

BUT the cost of any it seems hotel in Manhattan is extortionate!

You might want to try Priceline. You should get a great 4* room for a fraction of the normal price (even considering sites like Expedia etc.)

Having looked where Mahwah is, a flight to Newark (EWR) might've been a better option. Having said that I totally understand the OP's reasons for not wanting to take on the trip from JFK straight off the flight.

The reason why we are flying into JFK rather than Newark is because I could get - to my amazement- 2 UC round trip rewards for our dates . A pretty good case for choosing JFK !!
