I heard a report this morning that TUIs share price had dropped by 60 (someting) % but that was over the last year not one day.

The Thomas Cook news has unsettled shareholders so Tui shares were affected. But TC's problems are dire. At one point the entire company - was worth £89m.

Thing is we all like to travel at competitive prices. With thin margins even a slight downturn can put a company in trouble. Are we seeing the end of the package tour operator?

No don't think so.

Also different scenarios TUI lost its value over about a year whereas Thimas Cook lost it in a day.

As some of you may know, I work at GLA for a third-part compnay - with TCX being our largest customer.

With regards to what A330s they have left (bearing in mind that 3 have left the fleet already, and joined Air Transat) there will indeed be no seat-back IFE screens next summer - just the overhead ones. Saves weight, and in turn fuel. Also, the legroom on the A330s (currently 33ish inches) is being reduced to 29 inches - the same as their 757 fleet. This was the latest I heard from cabin crew, and indeed one of their managers. TCX have yet to confirm it, however they obviously have much bigger things to worry about.

As for Tui (TOM/FCA), they're a much stronger company than TCX - purely because they're aimed at the higher-end market, such as the more mature folk, and families going on all-inclusives. Also, Thomson Airways has a much better on-board product than Tommy Cook, particularly their long-haul offerings. Thomson are more along the lines of our beloved Virgin (well, the leisure arm anyway).

It's a sad fact that Thomas Cook Group is a victim of p!ss-poor management following the MyTravel merger, and it's soul-destroying to watch a once strong, legacy brand diminish. Absolutely infuriating that things have been allowed to nose-dive this far. Their staff are absolutely top-notch, and I'm not just saying that because I work alongside them - it's a fact.

If the unthinkable happens, then there will be massive job losses - not just for TCX staff, but the likes of myself and other ground staff and third-party folk etc. To say that it's a nerve-wracking time, is a bit of an understatement.

Finally, I personally find it disgusting that the media is allowed to act in this way. Fair enough reporting about a company which is experiencing financial turbulence (please excuse the poor pun), but DO NOT continue to emphasise the fact that said company has a very high chance to go bust. This does absolutely nothing to restore any consumer confidence in the company at all.

I just hope that Thomas Cook manage to sort themselves out ASAP. Failing that, then someone might acquire them. The next scenario, I find unthinkable.

29" and no seat-back IFE in economy sounds appalling. VS with their re-fitted 747's and new 330's should absolutely clean up on the LGW/MAN/GLA side now.

Absolutely - I actually said to their base manager a few months ago, that Thomas Cook ain't got a snowball's chance in hell of successfully competing with Virgin & TOM (who take delivery of the Dreamliners the year after next) from GLA on ONE ROUTE (i.e Orlando), let alone from MAN & LGW.

If TCX are still around in the future, then I can see them scrapping their long-haul programme and block-booking seats on Virgin & Thomson.

I can't imagine why, I had one of the worst flights ever with Thomas Cook. It was proper pile them in stuff, absolutely NO legroom whatsoever.

I was reading a Q&A session on (I think) the Guardian website and it was interesting how many people were evidently confusing TUI and TCX. Must be annoying for the TUI management.
