Well 2 weeks had gone so fast and I recommend Cuba to anyone. We stayed in Havana for 2 days and then went to Varadero for 13 nights.

As in my outward leg I managed to add another day as a Upper reward became available. Varadero is 2.5 hours away from Havana airport. We were picked up and on arriving at the airport went straight to check in and given boarding cards and lounge passes for the Elegant lounge. You have to pay a departure tax before leaving which was 25 CUC each :? .

Going through immigration is a bit of a bother and can take you a great deal of time especially if you are behind a lot of people some were 1 hour).

The lounge is quite big and it was also strange to see smoking in certain areas of the airport. There were sandwiches and drinks available but it was just finger food. The lounge was adaquate and not a bad place to relax.

Jersey Girl was waiting for us and priorty boarding commenced and it was not long until i was sitting down in 7K.

Flight time 8hrs 40mins and after an early start i was just waiting for dinner then of to bed. The announcements were made by an Irish senior crew member who was hilarous and very funny.

I also asked if 2 friends could come forward for 10 mins which the FSM agreed and had a coffee at our seats with them oo) y) .

I noticed that 7a was having a problem turning the seat into a bed and a crew member had a used a something down the side of a table to sort this out.

Woke up in 2 hours before we were due to land to notice the seat next to me had been occupied as well as one in the rear. turned out theat the rear seat occupant was not feeling well and was given oxygen during the night and a collegue was also allowed in the spare seat ?| .

However she was feeling much better in the morning. Again before we landed the announcement came on and we were all informed of the forthcoming changes to the LGW fleet and informed of exciting changes.

I also heard new routes were being considered with Rio de Janerio being one of them, how true this is i do not know.

Anyway great crew, great flight and great holiday y) y) y)

We really enjoyed Cuba too, though much preferred our time in Havana to the time in the resort. Havana would be great destination for a long weekend - I just wish it was a bit closer! To those of a mind to visit, get there before they succumb to the lure of the yankee dollar.

Only in certain areas? Have things changed recently? When we went even the sniffer dogs were dragging on Capstan Full Strength.

Thanks for the TR J. Interesting that the suites filled up overnight. Sounds like a great holiday and flights.

Checking the availability constantly for an elusive Upper reward seems to be the way to upgrade from E/PE. I'm doing it at the moment for an Australia trip and have secured 2 of the 3 upgrades.

Cheers

Katfras wrote:Great review - we are off on Saturday!! Is the lounge in Havana easy to find and what kind of finger food was available? Was there drinks?

Thanks

Kat

Yes Kat as you come out of the immigration and down the stairs you will see the lounge on the left hand side. Plently of soft drinks some rums and some beers. The food was a platter of sandwiches ,crisps nuts and cold meats. Enjoy Cuba I would go back tommrow.

good to see that you had a great holiday.

We were planning to go back to MCO either next year or 2013 but maybe HAV will be a good alternate.
