Well it's my first trip report and also my first upper class expeirience, where to start?

Well my Girlfriend and I booked our first upper class flights on a Z fare in the fairly recent sale, and being newbies we were determined to try and get the most out of it!

At t-minus 30 days I rang up and secured out drive thru check in slot and we were all set, we arrived at just after midday for our drive thru check in, what a breeze it was, bags taken away and met by staff member with our boarding passes ( I had already done OLCI only seq 8&9 though) on we went through the private security channel, and we headed towards the clubhouse!

We were met on arrival at the clubhouse and asked if we had been before which we hadn't so we were quickly shown into the lounge and given a brief talk through of the location of things in the lounge!!

Tour finished we Headed straight for the cowshed desk where I booked the cut throat shave and the girlfriend booked a foot massage, after that we wandered across past the bar and picked a seat, we were immediately approached and drinks orders were taken, a glass of Champers it'd be rude not too!

After the champers and a Peroni we moved into the restaurant area and I had a lovely clubhouse buger and Lorna had a curry both were delicious and I finished just in time to go for my shave , this didn't go quite as smoothly though, I enjoyed the shave very much along with the hot face towel and shoulder massage and left feeling quite happy, it was upon meeting up with my other half that she pointed out that their were 3 faily large patches on my face that they hadn't shaved, I went to the nearest mirror and sure enough I had a few "tufts" of hair here and there!! I went back to the cowshed and in fairness they got me back in with a different person and sorted it for me no worries , the first boarding call came whilst I was in having my shave re-done!

Once the shave was completed there was time for a final Peroni before the final boarding call and it was time to leave , on the way out we spotted Chris Moyles which was interesting, anyway we headed to the gate where priority boarding was in place ( though virtually everybody was already on board) We boarded through the forward door and were greeted and directed to our seats 10&11a, Being my first upper flight I was amazed by the space in my suite and almost immediately We were brought champagne by our attendant and upon realising we were first timers she explained to us how everything worked!

Prior to take off the aircraft was very hot, the captain came over the PA system to explain this was due to a faulty auxiliary power unit, meaning the air con could not be run, but that it would be running fine once the engines were on!

Take off was on time and shortly afterwards Our flight attendant came to take our dinner orders, we both ordered the fillet of beef (which I thought very nice) followed by the chilli chocolate cheesecake (also very nice though it does bite!)

Throughout the flight the service was excellent and we had some fun banter with the crew. Which resulted in me being referred to as Madame for the rest of the flight ( but that's another story!)

I settled down to watch super 8 which I thought was a little disappointing followed by the Inbetweeners movie which was mildly amusing, then it was time for afternoon tea I had a few cakes which were wolfed down quickly and washed them down with some coffee!

The seatbelt sign was on for a long period on the flight so didn't venture to the bar and to be fair it was quite a choppy flight!!

Our approach to Newark went smoothly and we landed a few minutes after 7pm, it was quite a lengthy taxi to our stand, and we were held on the aircraft for around 25 minutes with engines running due to the previously mentioned faulty auxiliary power unit, and no external power being available until a generator arrived!

We were eventually allowed off the aircraft through the forward door so we were amongst the first off the flight and into immigration, after a short wait I was called forward to be seen by perhaps the least motivated individual I have ever met, thankfully everything was in order and we were on our way to collect our baggage fairly swiftly, which was simple as our bags were amongst the first few on the luggage belt!

The whole experience from check in to leaving the baggage hall was so simple and I don't think we queued even once, we both loved our first upper class trip and think we are hooked!!

And that's the end of my first TR go easy on me!

Lovely TR, always appreciate the excitement of a first UC trip and turning left (although not now there are two jet bridges in use v( ).

What is it with APUs not working, it happens so often I'm beginning to think that 346 APUs are crap or VS doesn't bother to maintain that bit.

Thanks for the TR

Shame the shave wasn't as good as it should have been - especially (if I remember correctly) as the cut-throat is paid for

Hope you and the GF had a good time in NYC

Yes it was a paid treatment rather than free and a shame it wasn't right first time, but I guess everybody makes mistakes and it's how they are dealt with afterwards that really matters, they sorted it for me quickly and I even got an extra 5 mins head massage!! :)

Oh and we had a great time thanks she is now my Fiancée :D

Details on the proposal needed!!!

Haha
I took her to the top of the Empire State Building at sunset, with the traditional down on one knee, she had no idea and wasn't expecting it at all so was a lovely surprise! And thankfully Lorna said yes!

Thanks all for the congratulations

Thanks for the great first TR. When it goes well the VS UC experience is hard to beat, especially at Z prices. Great that you did the DTCI and CH properly too. Those touches help to make the extended journey that extra bit special.

And well done on your proposal at the top of the Empire State building. That's something neither of you will ever forget ^) ^)

Congratulations to you and Lorna.

Cheers
