Flight back from a quick week in Antigua - after a smooth journey out with a half empty cabin we were anticipating a packed plane. What we did not entirely expect was the hell that is Antigua Airport's Departures - I have never seen anything so disorganised or inefficient. Impossible to hear announcements (not helped by music blaring from the shops) and no boards to give you a clue. Loads of people standing around the gates for hours waiting to be called(?!) and the rest sitting bemused on the seats available. A horrible experience which I think will mean that Barbados/Tobago/St Lucia will all seem more attractive when it comes to time for another holiday!
Once on the plane, sanity was restored - upstairs in PE in the bubble. I do prefer the old style red seats to the purple ones - even the footrest feels better. Did not sleep but it was comfortable and quiet. Food was okay and the flight attendants were incredibly positive and friendly throughout - and seemed genuine - which really does make a difference.
When we landed at a near deserted Gatwick at 5.30 am I was amazed to find us shooting through immigration in seconds (we seemed to be among the first few to get off the plane - presumably after UC, but perhaps not the rest of PE?) found our luggage waiting for us on the belt and had met my husband and was driving out of Gatwick by 6am - a mere 30 minutes after touchdown.
