Just sitting at home after a hard day of eating leftovers and I thought I'd check to see if a G class had miraculously become available for my LHR to HKG return trip in May. And it was! Quickly rang FC and they were brilliant! So for the princely sum of £180 I am in Upper Class for the first time. So happy. :) They also only needed 15K points as there's a discount sale on at the moment.

Questions:

1. Which seat? I'm travelling solo, currently in 8A having read a few trip reports. Is this my best option, cabin is wide open at present!

2. I forgot to confirm that I can access the Clubhouse at Heathrow using points to upgrade - can I?

That's all I can think of at the moment - very excited! It's a great thing to be in UC at the end of a long trio round Europe, will definitely appreciate it y)

Brilliant y)

8A is a good seat, and travelling alone you'll be fine there - at HKG it doesn't really matter whether you're close to the door or not, everything is very organized!

And yes, of course you do get clubhouse access.

[Edit] Try as I might, I can't find details of the reward sale on the ever so confusing VS Web shite ... anyone help? 15k for a one way upgrade is great.

Can you upgrade to a MPM fare? Whatever, still a good result and shows you can get redemptions to HKG.

Miles plus Money. I can't find any reward seats sale on the website, and they often don't have those on UC (or if so, they save like 500 miles).

MPM = miles plus money where you can use some flying club miles to help pay for your flight.

It wasn't a miles plus money as far as I know, the FC lady just explained they were currently offering a discount and it would be 15K (usually 20K I think). The cash was to transfer my K in PE to a W and then to a G using points (and I guess the difference in taxes etc).

I didn't know there was a reduction in the points before I rang so a nice surprise.

Great news on the upgrade :D . The 8 row is where the bassinnett is located (8G) and this route often has babies onboard in the UC cabin. Is there any availablility in 2-6K? That's where I'd be wanting to be :) .
Enjoy the CH :) .

There are no additional taxes but there would have been the VS Fuel Surcharge which they include in the 'taxes' part of the fare even though it is 100% upto them. There would be no additional APD (a real tax) as the UC rate is the same as PE. There are two rates of AD - economy and essentially any cabin other then econimy.

Thanks for that - would like to avoid babies where possible (need to sleep on this sector). I've moved to 4K (5 & 6 K are the only other seats that have been taken).

Cheers again!

You're welcome, and I don't think you'll be disappointed with your new seat . I'm in 3K on Saturday with my mother in 4K and brother in 5K :D .
