Hi folks,

I've finally cashed in some miles and booked a trip over the pond later in the year, but as always, never quite sure where to plonk myself.
I am travelling alone, outbound on the VS5 and inbound on the VS20 (both U/C LHR 747's).
Having only done U/C ex LGW, does anyone have any recommendations for seating on the LHR 747's? I was wondering if 18A/19A had just the partition in front, or was the same as the other side, i.e used as the beautitian station?
The next part of this is, this is the second trip for me on an LHR config, and on all 4 legs the seating plan has shown E/C upstairs also. Does anyone know if this is a default setting, or just coincidence, as it seems that only G-FAB has this config according to the v-flyer database.
I recently flew on G-WOW in P/E, and whilst waiting to disembark, the amount of people coming down from the bubble suggested it may not match the config shown, although that may have been solely down to my impatience!! :D

At the moment I have chosen 15A outbound, and 5K inbound.

Sorry for the drawn out question, any help much appreciated! y)

Hi all LHR 747s are in config 4 with half of the bubble being Y seating.

By common view, this spoils the upstairs UC cabin and few now prefer it and most prefer the nose of the 747 on the main deck.

As a frequent single traveller my favourite seats are 19A or K, you have the wall behind you and only one neighbour, and a relatively private setting.

Check out the seat map and ratings here.

In my opinion the best seats in a LHR 747 are those in Zone A in the nose of the aircraft. As you are travelling alone 12A or K are best avoided as you are very near the person in the seat opposite. It is a seat for couples. I personally like row 15 but many lone V-Flyers like 19A

All the LHR 747s have the J/Economy split in the bubble, not just G-VFAB. 5K is great for a night flight but remember you will be disembarking behind the economy passengers up there and so may be slow in getting off.

Cheers slinky,
I tend to agree with you on that, certainly for the outbound leg. When you say there is a wall behind you an 19A, does that mean no window at all? I've seen a photo of the right side, and it seemed that 19K looks on to the pamper pad,and was hoping that 19A didn't.

honey lamb,
That's the answer I was looking for, I thought they may be all that config upstairs. I know what you mean about disembarking behind E/C, but I imagine I shall be visiting the revivals lounge anyway so not in a huge rush. I just thought for the night flight it stands a better chance of being the quieter cabin.

they disembark the UC passengers in the bubble before the Econs. I quite like the bubble in UC, its much more spacious than the main cabin as there's no central row of seats, however the downside is that the overhead bins are much smaller. there are cupboard but it means that you might not have your bag directly in reach if this is an issue.

inbound on an overnight i try to get as far down the nose as possible, reducing the number of neighbours & also getting away from the galley which starts prepping breakfast pretty early

Wall behind in the conventional sense, not behind in the UC sense i.e. the window, there is a nice full window by seat 19 on either side, the wall is the back of the A zone UC cabin after which are doors L1 and L2.

If you mean pamper pad as the IFBTS then that no longer exists (boy it is a long time since you flew UC ): ).

As to quietness, recall that the A zone has 14 seats, and the upper deck now has 43 seats, although I've not read a TR yet that says the Y part is rampantly noisy, it's just that there are a lot more people.

Stuart

This is the view from 19A on Saturday morning coming into LHR on VS20 Cosmic Girl. You actually get a view through one and a half windows from that suite, although as with all UC suites you do have to twist around to look out. Below that is the view forward into the A zone.

As Slinky says, the wall is behind you so you benefit from a little extra storage shelf there too.

Excellent pics Martin, that's exactly what i needed, many thanks indeed!! y)

Slinky, in my defence, I have only flown U/C ex-LGW, and I was going by a photo posted by a v-flyer of G-WOW in 2005!!! Hence I assumed it was still the same layout! :D Unfortunately, I don't get to turn left that often, but that's what makes your advice so important. You just don't want to mess it up, do you? :(!

It would appear that the general view is that 19A should be a decent choice then, so have plumped for that both ways.

Needless to say that pics and TR will follow, eventually!
