Our last day in the sunshine state was made better by the thought of our flight home in Upper Class. Now having done the outbound trip I was hoping this was going to be better. It turned out to make up for everything that was disappointing on the previous flight.
I had asked on V-flyer about if I did Downtown Disney check in whether I could still check in a bag at the airport. I decided not to do this after all and just check our bags in at the airport after doing online check in and not printing the boarding cards. Again we got sequence 17 and 18. I’m so glad for the information from this forum as it made finding the upper check in area easier as it’s at the opposite side to the other check in desks. As we walked up I heard the words asked to my OH ‘are you travelling premium today sir?’ xx( She seemed really taken aback when I replied ‘no upper ‘. Maybe it’s because we are quite young that she assumed we would not be travelling in upper class.
We were seen straight away on arrival and processed really quickly. We were given our invites to the Delta Crown Lounge and asked if we knew where it was and if we knew where to go for our flight. We weren’t bothered about getting any duty free so we went straight through and into the lounge. It was fairly busy when we arrived but emptied quickly and I realised our flight was the last flight out of the terminal so at boarding the only people left in the lounge were the people on our flight. Now something very surprising happened while we were in the lounge. We were sat using our iPods when something caught my peripheral vision. I thought I saw something run passed me. I decided I’d had too much whiskey (I had only had one drink at this point) and must have been hallucinating; anyway I decided to mention it to my OH. He replied that if I’d hallucinated he had too and maybe it had been a furry spider ?| I got him to take a look under the seat but couldn’t see anything and the lounge was still quite full at this point so we decided it must have been a spider and I carried on bragging to my friends about where I was. :D
Just before boarding was called I decided to use the loos and on my way back I saw it run across the floor again. Well it was no spider it was a mouse- that woke me up :0 . Stunned I reported it to the very nice ladies on the desks who couldn’t apologise enough and would report it to the exterminators. It doesn’t surprise me that they would have an infestation as food had been left all over the lounge when we were in it. They were constantly cleaning but it's just unfortunate and also a fact of life that vermin is so prevalent everywhere.
Shortly after this our flight was called and we were escorted by one of the virgin ground staff to the aircraft y) . Sorry I don’t know which aircraft it was as we were whisked onto it so quickly.
Again we were greeted at the door and asked to turn left. We took our seats and offered champagne, Lanson again. We had seats 7A and K. The cabin was not full with 3 empty seats so it was quiet.
PJ’s were piled up at the bar and I was advised that if the size I wanted was not there they would get me some.
The CC introduced herself and asked what post take off drink that I would like and if I’d had a chance to look at the menu yet? I asked for a cocktail if possible, she said she would try if she could and as my cocktail was very simple she did this request for me y) (I asked for champagne and cognac, not many people appear to have heard of this combination, I recommend trying it- but be warned its a strong drink). This time food orders were taken in seat order and seeing her sheet she did not have any fare codes written next to anyone. I chose the lobster which was delicious and light followed by the beef medallions, a little over cooked for me but still very nice. This was followed by the apple, marmalade and whiskey bread pudding. Unfortunately this was too cold for me but on informing the CC she apologised and asked if I would like something else so I chose the cheese board which I thought very good and at room temperature. I asked if I could have the salt and pepper pots which I was told I could have but the CC hadn’t told me I could have them. They are now on proud display in my kitchen cabinet.

Sorry if these photos are not very clear as they were taken with my iPod.
Prior to the arrival of the food the FSM came into the cabin and introduced herself to everyone in the cabin taking time to ask if there was anything that we needed and that if there were any problems to ask for her and she would come straight away.
After all my protein and carbohydrate I decided I needed to sleep it off so made my bed up. I was asked if I would like waking for breakfast or left until as late as possible.
The flight was very bumpy with the seat belt light coming on. This didn’t bother me as I was tucked up in bed with my seat belt over my duvet so was not disturbed. I slept very well and woke about 2 hours before landing. As soon as I sat up the CC came and asked if I would like a drink and some breakfast. I chose the bacon sandwich and a nice cup of coffee. She made my bed back into a seat while I was in the loo. My OH does not sleep on flights and informed me the CC were coming around the cabin at least hourly to check on people.
About 40 minutes before landing the FSM announced that we would be landing shortly and if people wanted to use the toilets to use them now as the captain would be putting the seat belt lights on soon.
We landed 40 minutes ahead of schedule to an empty border control. I think I was the third person off the aircraft so was through very quickly. Our bags were one of the first off and we were in a cold Manchester with all our bags 20 minutes after landing, an absolute record.
My final thoughts about this flight are that it was very good with attentive service. The CC had a cheery smile and seemed happy in their work. I felt much more comfortable on this flight than the outbound flight and from this experience cannot wait for my next flight. I have contacted flying club this morning and had my missing miles credited to my account and achieved silver status. I am also going to contact customer services regarding my return flight as I feel it was so good due to the service received.
For anyone who is still alive after this long report. Thanks for reading and thanks for the advice I have gained from v-flyer.

Again, thanks for the TR Claire. This flight is very much like most of my experiences in Upper Class (what it should be like too). I am on the VS74 in two weeks time - hope for the same crew you got!

Claire

Your return trip just goes to prove my theory - if the FSM is on the ball, the rest will follow and the passenger experience will be greatly be improved.

Mrs Buns and I witnessed the fury creatures in the Delta Crown Room when we were the in October :0 We thought that removal of the settees by the time we were there in December would have helped, but obviously not n(

As for your champagne cocktail, well it is of course the classic and a touch of angostura bitters and a little sugar makes it perfect :w

Thanks for the TR

A classic champagne cocktail, how very stylish (but no sugar cube or Angostura Bitters?).

Food looked good, thanks for the TR!
