Travelling to San Diego in March with UC G fare to SFO and connecting flight with Virgin America.

Used the Clubhouse there last year and have to say its a great place to spend an hour or two waiting for a flight.

The VX website says that Elevate members can use the Clubhouse for $35. As I have a four hour layoff before a 5.15pm connecting flight sounds good. Flights were booked with VS however to earn miles and tier points.

I've therefore joined Elevate but wondered if anyone has done this before and can I do it if not earning Elevate points?

I think you should be able to, I have paid access previously as an Elevate member.

Also check what hours they are open, and Virgin America now fly from a different Terminal to where the Clubhouse is situated, so leave plenty of time.

Hi MS

I'm fairly sure you can just buy the lounge passes at the check-in / ticketing desk at $35 per head. I have done the LHR-SFO-SAN trip before, but with a shorter layover and hence did not bother with the lounge.

The VS lounge - as used by VX - is in the International terminal, whereas VX have moved to the shiny new terminal 2 which is a good 10 minute walk plus time spent in security. That new terminal is well designed, with a lot of eateries, bars and shops. At the VX gates they have a mix of interesting seating including clubhouse style swivel chairs, work desks with power; as well as more traditional seats. Much as I like the SFO VS clubhouse, on balance, I think I'd head to terminal 2 and spend my $35 pp there. It will be a bit more interesting for the ~3 hours you have.

It takes about 10 minttes to get to T2 but the issue will actually be the CH opening hours as they vary depending on the day of the week

Also from this page on elevate it looks like they wont let you in before 16:00 on M/T/Sa and 17:00 rest of the week (I assume after the VS20 has departed) so factor that in as well.

Thanks Tonty but I figured, now that VX is in an entirely separate terminal, surely there must be a lounge offering T2? Sounds like not?

Incidentally, does anyone know if you're flying VX 1st from Las Vegas - do you get a lounge thrown in?

Thanks again

I'm with Martin on this one. T2 is really good and not crowded and there is plenty of seating at the gates. T2 also has free wi-fi (as has the rest of SFO) which is far more stable than the wi-fi in the Clubhouse

James

Strange quirk of travelling in First in the US is that there are no lounges provided as a matter of course :0 :0

When Mrs Buns and I last travelled VX in First, outbound we did not bother and in LAS the only Lounge available through Priority Pass was nowhere near the VX Gate
