After a very nice 11 days relaxing in near perfect weather on the beaches of Montego Bay it was time to pack the bags and sort out on line check in. We managed to check in online on an i-pod with the free wi-fi in the hotel lobby, it was an extremely slow process and we managed sequence 34 & 35. n(
The taxi to the airport took about 10 minutes. Upper class check in only had 1 couple in front of us but PE and Economy were bursting at the seams! When we got to the check in desk I commented that it must be a full flight and we were told the flight was over sold and would we be interested in voluntary standing down. I asked what this would entail, she replied they would put us up in Beaches Negril and fly us home the following Tuesday. Being retired with no commitments it was very tempting but the thought of the 2 hour taxi ride to Negril on Jamaican roads finally put me off. We then made our way to the Mo Bay lounge which was very good much better than the lounge at Kingston.
Boarding was called on time and priority boarding was clearly marked and woking well. y) We again had seats 79A & C we were not greeted by name just told to make our way upstairs. The amenity pack and water bottle were already on the seat and we were quickly offered the pre flight drink but no refills. The captain anounced there were 357 people on board and 15 crew. Headsets were handed out just before take off mine worked fine but Mr D wouldn't plug in due to a previous set having snapped off and still being stuck! n( They told him they would sort something out this turned out to be an adaptor which pluged into my seat, stuck out about 11/2 inches and into the side of my leg and also meant we had to watch the same film. n(
To make up for Mr D IFE not working the very pleasant young lady serving us, ask what our choice of main meal was, she would put them to one side being last to be served they were likely to run out of choices before they reached us. y) We took off about 10 minutes late and the meal service started soon after the seatbelt sign went off. True to her word she kept our choice of the main meal which had " run out " before she got to us. :) We had the jerk chicken and rice which was lovely so as on the outbound flight the food was very good. y) Brandy and Baileys were served and the 2 crew were on hand throughout the night with drinks runs.
I managed to watch 1 film " The Debt " which was quite good and fell asleep watching the second. I was awaken when the breakfast trolley reached us. We were served an omlette and mushrooms, tea or coffee. Still being on Jamaican time ( 2:30 am ) I failed to have any appetite for mine. I noticed a lot of discussions going on with 4 passengers opposite us, they were refusing to accept the breakfast on offer. The FSM came to speak to them and shortly after returned with bacon rolls AND tomato sauce from Upper Class. I did think to ask what their complaint was for future reference. ;)
Once again the 2 cabin staff worked extremely hard all trough the flight and were still smiling at the end, even with the professional moaners sitting opposite us still quibbling about something as we disembarked!

Thanks for the TR. You are evidently most equable temprement having yet to demand SRB's home address to complain about a dodgy situation with the IFE and a breakfast for which you had no appetite :) Interesting to see that a bit of lateral thinking by the cc smoothed over the IFE issue...

Thanks for your return TR y) Sounds like a very pleasant and attentive CC for your flight home ^) I always wonder why airlines serve eggs for breakfast as they consistently look and taste suspect (IMHO) ?|

Can I ask what, other than the over night stay, did VS offer you to stand down from your flight?

Most surprised, I was understanding that 'leisure' flights were not over sold ?| .

Sounds a solid return.

Hi Petmadness,

THe offer was to stay in Jamaica for an extra 3 nights at the all inclusive Beaches Negril. No other alternative was offered. If it had been a hotel in Montego Bay we would have probably accepted, we just didn't fancy the long drive to Negril.
