Hello all,

Brand new to this forum so many apologies if this has been asked before.

We are booked to fly LGW to LAS and then LAX to LHR, in Premium Economy in June. The return flight is fine but I was told after I had booked that seat assignment is not working as they are upgrading their Gatwick fleet (great news) but we could check in 24 hours before and 'hope for the best seats'. I am more concerned as I am a very nervous flyer and am worried that my partner and I will be split up. Does anyone have any advice on what to do? Virgin call centre said they could not add a note to my booking.

Thanks very much for any help you can give,

Kevin

Best to do On Line Check In as soon as it opens (24 hours before departure).

If you do not get the seats you want, ask at the Check In desk and let them know about your nervousness.

I would be surprised if you were to be split up mind.

Hi Kevin and welcome to V-Flyer y)

The refurbishment of the Gatwick Fleet has been much commented upon on this site and in many people's eyes is long overdue :w

Becuase this refurbishmnent, Virgin have been open about saying that it will not be possible in certain circumstances to allow passengers to pre - request seats, so you should not be unduly worried about this.

Whilst none of know precisely what the new configuration may look like, the current set up is 2 + 2 on the upper deck and 2 + 3 + 2 on the lower deck, so it is pretty rare to be split up.

The trick is to get on line 24 hours before the flight and grab two seats togehter

Please feel free to ask any questions about your upcoming flights - you will find V-Flyer very helpful

Hey Kevin,

It's very unlikely that two people travelling on the same PNR especially if you have the same surname. I would also be very surprised as they try their upmost to keep people together.

Otherwise, wait till OLCI opens and nab some good seat!

Hi all,

Thanks so much for getting back to me so quickly, really appreciated.

We don't have the same surname but are on the same booking. I'll make sure I check us in online exactly 24 hours before! I did try and work out the difference between PE & UC just for the outbound flight, basically so I could get good seats!! (very sad I know!) but the prices seem to have fluctuated from about £600 extra each to over a £1000 as it stands now.

Anyway, thanks again. Pretty impressed already with this forum. :)

I have travelled with Virgin many times, sometime brilliant, sometimes not so.....But on the whole the best way to skip across the pond. Everytime we have checked in on line we have found good seats, and everytime we have been sat together. It is true that you have to check in individually but that doesn't make any difference.

I have been told that if you are flying PE then you can keep ringing customer services until they know which plane you will be on, and when they know they will assign you some seats.

Even if this doesn't work you will be fine, just make sure you log into your booking a few minutes ahead of the 24 hours then then on the mark, click to check in online.

Have a great flight. :) :) :)

Hi,
Another worried passenger unable to reserve PE seats for a LGW flight in August. I understand I will need to use the Online check in facility 24 hours before but as we are a family of 4, is it true I have to do each of us one at a time? If thats true, it will take ages and surely I'll never be able to get 4 seats where I want before somebody else gets in and reserves one of the seats I want?

Are all of your party on one booking?
If so, you should be able to do them all, if you have the passport details for them all.

OLCI is sometimes fickle, especially if you are unlucky enough to have a name which is the same as someone on a 'watch list' . :0

There is no point in phoning as VS won't know until 24-48 hrs before departure which plane they will allocate to a particular flight.

All you are doing is wasting your own time as well as that of a VS agent asking for something they can't give you.

When you do OLCI the website asks if you are booking in others or just yourself. I have been able to check in others on the same flight but not on the same PNR (but linked) and get us all seated together

Yes, we are a family on one booking, so it sounds like we should be OK. Many thanks.
