Hi, probably an old chestnut that may of been covered again and again, but wanted a bit of advice please.

Me and the new wife to be would of accumulated around 50,000 airmiles by next Jan and fancied a hop over the pond for a long weekend maybe next march. Would prefer to be at the pointy end therefore how does one get a Z class fare? We've got a rtn to CPT this September on a Z but only through virgin holidays? Any thoughts? Is it best to wait until 11 months prior to departure date and call VS holidays and try my luck? Unfortunately not a lot can be done with 50,000 airmiles just yet otherwise miles + £ would of been an option.

Cheers.

Z is the lowet UC fare code and can be booked online by selecting UC Lowest on the VS website or by calling reservations and requesting a Z fare.

VH do book their UC pax in to the Z fare code also but it is not exclusive to them.

if you buy a return economy in L you can use 20k miles each to get into PE (roundtrip) or buy a PE 'S' fare then 20k each will get you into UC.

Just as a slight side question; how do you check if there are seats available to upgrade into? (to save buying an upgradeable ticket if there are no seats available in a higher cabin)

Best is to ring Virgin directly.

If you do a search on the VS website for tickets to purchase with miles that'll tell you! The seats for miles upgrades come from the same pool of availability as pure miles seats!

I think if you dump VS Holidays and bump up (buy more miles) a bit, ringing the lovely staff at FC will give the best results. We are diong Dubai UC return for £980 each + 30,000 I think. Not typical as out of season but PE upgrades are soooooo much more worth while. We did have the Xmas trip of £1K eack return to SFO in 2011 but think we died and gone to .........well, SFO!!!!!!! It was a paid Z fare. What you really want is a G , upgraded fare, I think.

A 'G' is an UC reward ticket. There still needs to be availabiltiy in the G bucket to be able to upgrade from Econ or PE to UC
