New York Flight Times

Hi there, flying to NY this weekend on the VS45 and back the following weekend on VS4.

I remember reading a few months back that strong winds were causing really long and then short flights times. Just wondering what it's like at the moment?

Been a member here for a while now but haven't got around to posting much. Will be flying at the back of the bus (uni field trip so not much choice...although I did consider asking if one person could be upgraded on a group booking - true vflyer? )

if you have a look in the 'schedules' in the toolbox you will be able to see departure/ arrival times and hence calculate flight times.

I'm not aware of any particular weather issues at the moment though that make flight times any longer or shorter than normal.

The Gulf Steam frequently causes super fast eastbound return flights from the US. y)

On the downside, these are often negated by being stacked over the south of the UK for ages, before the plane is cleared for landing at LHR.

last time i flew in to LHR i was over the Southampton area for nearly an hour which put us back to our original landing time instead of being early.

Quite a few of today's westbound(not all Virgin) are being hampered by strong winds.

Also wondering whether I'd be able to purchase extra legroom seats at the airport even though I'm part of a large (30+) group booking? Or would that cause a problem for the check in person?

Also bear in mind that on Sunday March 11th, USA & Canada start they "daylight saving time" schedule which means their clocks go forward one hour.

This will mean that flights from the UK will seem to have taken an hour longer than usual because the arrival time is pushed forward. The time difference between UK and the Eastern USA & Canada is only 4hours.

This time difference only last 2 weeks, because as from Sunday 25th we then move forward to equal the time difference back to usual.

Flew over from JFK Tuesday night. Pilot estimated flight time at 5hrs 50mins. Over an hour faster than usual. If we hadn't had to hold for 25mins we'd have been even faster. In the end just 45mins ahead of schedule.

On the flight out to NYC last Sunday, it took nearly 8 hours. Which seemed longer than usual.

Thanks rich, hmmm, more than 8 hours. Flying back to EWR today. might have to fork out for an upgrade one way or another.
