Just booked a flight on VS to JFK in April...7th outbound (VS45), 11th return (VS46). When booking my Y booking, it asked if I wanted to upgrade...£172 for the outbound, £5 (YES, £5!) for the return, or £177 for the whole trip.

I went back and refreshed it again to see if it was true....it was, just snagged a PE return for a fiver, all booked, paid for, and confirmed...though I feel a bit guilty as it was too cheap. But if it stands, best deal I've ever gotten on a flight. Full stop!

Those offers just simply offer you the difference between the cheapest fare classes available in the adjacent cabins. If you get an offer to go from Y to PE for £5 it means you've either priced up an expensive bucket Y sector, or there's a good PE sale on.

In your case it looks like the cheap economy buckets are full on those flights. Try to book it now and you get:

Please note that we have upgraded one or more legs of your journey. This is because the lowest available fare meeting your travel requirements is in a higher cabin than you selected..

Now booking into X outbound K inbound, but for £665...

So it looks like you did well :)

we booked a friend on a Vegas flight in May in economy and was waiting for the price to come down from its price of £466 on way at the moment, I thought i was in luck when it went down to £200 yesterday for about 2 hours and soon shot back up to £466.

Congrats on an excellent upgrade :)
