My first post!

I need to travel JFK-LHR on 6/28, upper class (using 40,000 miles). Currently there is no award availability. When does revenue management typically release these seats? Can I use 27,500 miles for a premium economy seat, and when an upper class seat is released I can pay 12,500 miles for the seat?

Thanks!

Seems that it can be totally random when they're released, travelling to JFK on 13th April and just last night seats were made available on that particular flight!

Did exactly the same infact, had a PE reward and just used an extra 12,500 miles (plus an extra £53 in "taxes") to get into UC so that's certainly how it works!

Whilst it does appear random it is not - although you have a better chance of figuring out how to get to the top of google.

Literally one minute the flight is full and the next seats available. Even on day of departure a full flight can open up. The main thing is to get something booked so you have a starting point.

In case you did not realise you can buy an economy seat and 40k miles will get you a roundtrip upgrade. (10k per cabin each way). The advantage of this is you will earn miles as well as spend them so it will not cost you 40k as you will get at least 7k back. (not all Y fares qualify)

What I'd like to know is how and when and where do you get reward flights?! I've never ever been offered anything in the numerous years I've been a flying club member spending tens of thousands on flights and holidays, but never ever had anything to acknowledge my loyalty. Humpf!

If you have already bought your ticket then upgrade offeres will generally be offered as part of the booking process and in 'manage my bookings'. They are not dependent on being a FC member - they just appear. They can often be offered at OLCI as well and you can also ask at the airport but in all cases there are only a limited number of upgrades available.

If you want to try and 'buy' a Miles ticket then do a dummy bookings for your flight dates and see if there are any reward seats available (use the 'spend miles' option in the booking engine). If there are then book as again the number of award seats is limited and there are other people looking as well

I think your interpretation of "reward" seat is the assumption its a freebie offered by VS, or a freebie upgrade.
"Reward Seats" is just another name for seats/ upgrades bought with Flying club miles

You can get reward flights by looking for "spend miles" availability on VS's booking screen.

Op Up's (basically last minute upgrades) are rare/ none existent and follow no logical pattern- normally if they do happen relate to pax loads on a particular flight.
