Anyway, having completed OLCI the day before, achieving the completely pointless yet strangely satisfying SEQ1 & 2, we set off from London Bridge on a very quiet Bank Holiday Monday, parked in the Terminal 3 Short Term Carpark (pre booked), were very quickly through check-in and security, and found ourselves in the Clubhouse little over an hour after setting off.
The Clubhouse didn't seem very busy (but seeing as it was only our second visit - our first being five years ago, I haven't much to compare it with). I booked a trim, and then we both enjoyed breakfast - very good friendly service. Had time for a look round the shopping centre before my trim.
By the time I'd finished that and had a Peroni, Mrs T had finished her shopping so it seemed only proper to have a champagne each, by which time our flight was called. By the time we reached the gate it was deserted so it was straight on to Soul Sister (G-VBLU) and into our seats, 4K and 5K. For some reason I was welcomed by name in spite of having no Flying Club status.
The seats seemed clean and tidy. More champagne was gratefully accepted. Take-off was on time, it was announced that there were 141 passengers. Upper seemed about one third full. Economy passengers were told they could move about after take-off but would have to return to their original seats for landing.
After a G&T meal orders were taken. I'll list the menu as it is a bit different from other routes:
Starters
Cream of pea soup (with pea shoots)
Japanese appetiser plate (Miso-flavoured king prawn, fish cake with cod roe and grilled miso chicken)
Main Courses
Grilled fillet of beef (with Cabernet Sauvignon sauce, parsley mashed potatoes, glazed carrots and asparagus)
Dolcelatte cheese and walnut tortellini (Pommery mustard sauce, Italian hard cheese and fresh rocket)
Fillet of teriyaki salmon (with rice, mushroom, carrot and French beans served with miso soup)
Dessert
Lemon tart
Warm sticky toffe pudding
I had the Japanese appetiser and salmon - both good. Also managed lemon tart and cheese. The cheese came ready plated with date, grapes and chutney. No sign of a cheese trolley!
Watched a film and then tried to sleep, which I find very difficult on a plane. Of course I was soundly asleep when the lights came up for breakfast. It was good to be able to choose what I wanted from the cooked breakfast - just had bacon and tomatoes.
We landed at Narita about half an hour early due to strong tailwinds. Were quickly off the plane and through Immigration/Customs and cases were already waiting.
As an infrequent traveller I perhaps didn't pick up on any shortcomings of service, but I have to say I thought we were looked after extremely well. Service was attentive but not intrusive, and I was impressed.
Currently in Kyoto after Tokyo and Hakone having a great time, looking forward to our return flight on the 19th.
