I don't understand why any musician would want to use that. Recording sessions take days, not the few hours someone may have before a flight.
.. Ha ha ha, although I probably shouldn't laugh! Don't we often see musicians wandering around the clubhouse, instruments in hand desperately searching for a method of recording whilst awaiting a plane.. No? Just me?!
I imagine it will be a good novelty for the kids though, not to mention being a further feather in VA's cap of being innovative and different to other airlines.

Depends what stage of the process they are at. Many songwriters will go through a series of demo recordings that will be recorded quickly and cheaply to get ideas down on tape / disk. Belfast musician Brian Houston has provided, for we completists, a view of the complete process from iPhone though home studio to professional studio. And the great Nick Lowe was famous for his recording approach of "bash it out now..."
That said, it's a gimmick. And it does rather sound as if it might be a microphone linked into a pc rather than a recreation of Abbey Road or Gold Star.

I wonder where it is in the CH? I didn't notice it last week. I am there on Friday so I will have a look ... and maybe record my next no. 1

The article says it's backed by Avid - so I'd imagine it cost nothing for VS to put it in other than tarting up a broom cupboard somewhere, and both they and Avid get some publicity out of the Virgin spin machine.
Now - if only they could run an airline as well as they run a publicity department...

It's an editing suite in the library (a Mac with a few extra buttons...) so hopefully headphones will be used at all times (if at all)

So an "industry standard recording studio" it is not....
VS become more comical with their spin by the day...
Is it starting to hint at Ryanair PR....

Found this, there are some photos and going between calling it a Studio and an edditing suite...

Having worked as a recording engineer for about 15 years, I can confirm that AVID is absolutely top of the range equipment, and the facilities they've put in place are excellent.
Being that a number of people from the creative industries fly with VS, this is a great addition to the Clubhouse for engineers to kill time with before their flight.

I sense a Vflyer hit in the making

If we are going to record a duet, we should do the Flower Duet that British Airways have used so successfully for so long. ): It might be a bit of a stretch vocally, though, given that we are both male.

Well, if you like, I could arrange it that you both sing soprano. ):

Given that the PR mentions VS' roots in the record business it has to be an acapella rendering of "Tubular Bells" or, at a stretch, "The Faust Tapes". Loon pants mandatory, but leave the afghan coat at home as they do tend to pong a bit.

VA facebook page have just announced the opening of there new music recording studio in the LHR club house.
It might be a publicity stunt but from the comments posted it looks as if they have put many peoples backs up.
I think someone has seriously cocked up with this.

At least they went with top end gear. Pro Tools 10 is the industry standard.
I run an Avid digital console for live work and there is little to better it!
So at least it isnt a toy, its the real deal.

So....
There will be no "single"... There aren't even any microphones. It's just a desk with an iMac, two small bits of Avid/Pro gear in the corner of the library/office area. People working as usual on their laptops in there, and nothing to draw anyone to the fact that the rather bland desk has an actual use.
There was me expecting a recording STUDIO. (Well, there was Virgin claiming it was...)

That is pretty much what a recording studio is these days. OK, there is acoustic treatment etc (and I assume this isnt the case in the CH). You cant expect VS to provide microphones. Most singers will travel with their own microphone anyway. They seem to have everything a musician needs to record a quick couple of tracks.

Will be Very intrigued to know if anyone uses it for stuff other than just to mess around with for 15 mins...
Basically just a product placement. Let's those who've not got it a chance to play and possibly decide to buy...
Await other placements in near future...?
