I have a nice tip for MIA travellers.

Where the bags usually come out (belt 7 or 8) there is a customs point which gets usually very busy especially if a BA flight has landed and everyone is fighting to get out. This customs point is only a back up to the main one by belt 3 and as such, gets very congested.

If you grab your bags and head over to belt 3, you'll hit the main customs point with loads more staff so you will be able to get out of MIA much quicker!

Are you aware of the Dollar/sunpass toll rip off? I have just switched to Alamo at cost to me because of this.

I had the pleasure of coughing up the toll money with Dollar! Though I did do plenty of miles out there on the turnpike, so it might have paid off?

I'm only going to be in Florida for three days and then driving up North. Yet they were going to charge me the $7 a day fee for 16 days..... No exception to the rules....

Have Willie Walsh and Steve Rideway ever written to the US equivalent of Theresa May complaining about long waits of UK pax at US airports ??

I went through MIA on 4th May and it took about 25 mins. TSA officer seemed nice and friendly. Although our bags were off the belt and waiting in the middle when we finally got through to baggage reclaim.

That's exactly what happened with us on the 6th.
bags were already waiting on the floor by the belt.
Another fair wait though to go through customs.
Didn't realize about the other exit (looked Closed)
Still - quicker exit than I had expected.....

Try and change to Alamo - hassle free!!

I chose Alamo for this very reason. The Dollar scheme seems a complete rip off.

But I have a couple of questions on Alamo.

1. On the tolls, I think the system in Alamo cars is automatic and you are charged just as you pass the tolls. Is this correct and I dont need to do anything or set anything up?
2. I have booked through rentalcars.com (formerly carhire3000). But I dont think I can use the express checkin. When I enter my details it says it was booked by a tour agent (which is obviously true). Any ideas or is this just not possible?

Not looking forward to MIA.
Though I have teard that if you go left at immigration it is much better as there are desks that seem to be hidden behind som pillars. Never been there so can anyone shed any light on this?

That used to be the case ;) , but would like more recent visitors to validate this.

Oh, and don't tell everybody ): .

When we were there last month they took people with small children or onward flights in less than 3 hours :0 out of the main queue and directed them through the channel on the left.

This was a great piece of advice which saved us about 1.5 hrs of stress and annoyance yesterday...... Thanks!

Flew into MIA yesterday afternoon to find the Immigration hall packed and the likely wait something around 1hr 45 mins to 2 hrs :0 The hall itself was absolute carnage iwith queues merging, people pushing there way through to the front, groups queing in 4 or 5 queues at once etc etc v(

Headed over to the far left of the hall (behind the wall) as suggested and managed to drift through the diplomatic/crew line in under 15 mins with a Immigration officer who was a joy to talk to y)
