I see that it is possible to have foreign currency delivered direct to the LHR clubhouse.

Has anybody used this service?
Are there any pitfalls?
Can you order cash, travellers cheques or both?.

Thanks in advance,
Tim.

this and this should help

Consensus seems to be is that it's ok for an emergency but if you can buy elsewhere you will get a better rate

As Tonty has said, the rate will be much better by going else where. (recently ICE Heathrow in the tube station has had the best rate I could find, if you pre-register for the voucher rate!)

Also does anyone use Travellers Cheques anymore? I have never had anyone use one.

Thanks for the speedy replies.
Tontybear,
I've had a look at the other threads and think I'll give this service a miss and just go for the best rate I can find elsewhere.
Hamster,
I generally use my credit cards in the USA, but do take a few hundred pounds in travellers cheques just in case they don't work on the odd occasion. However my partner does not have any credit cards so prefers the security of the cheques as against taking a wad of cash.

If you are in London I recommend thomas exchange global

I have used the Victoria Branch several times and the service is very quick and efficient. The queue can sometimes look a little long but they get through it pretty quickly.

Oh ok, I much prefer cash and credit cards myself :-p.

ICE offer travellers cheques, cashcards and cash. They have London branches at LHR, Waterloo, Westfield London and Chelsea. Current USD rate is 1.549 but last time I used them (last week) got a rate higher than advertised online, still had to show voucher (screen print on phone was ok). There are other locations in UK but on lower rates.

I do belive that it was you Mr B that told me about them on this very site. Previously I'd jst gone to travelex at T3 !

Last time I used a travellers cheque was in NYC in 1999 and I had to tell the shopkeep what to do with it in terms of checking my id etc !

I suppose the modern equivalent of TCs are the pre-loaded cash cards.

I was clearing out a rarely used drawers a short time ago and came across a stash of travellers cheques. I can't remember when I last used them and returned them to the bank who looked at them in amazement! :0

Well they probably didn't have any shillings to hand, honey lamb :)
